Where did you buy your RF receiver from? I hope from LR directly as the RF receivers don't have part numbers and unscrupulous people are selling their old ones or have old stock.

Secondly from what you say sounds like more than the RF receiver. Battery drain, lock outs and engine immobilisation are definitely the dreaded RF receiver issue.

But what your now describing sounds like two possibilities:-

You changed the RF receiver without charging the battery to maximum first causing errors in the BECM security system.

or secondly the door electrics are shot and need investigating and replacing.

Hi Adam
I purchased the RF receiver from my local LR Dealer £134 with the VAT
Yeah the battery was kind of low when the RF receiver was changed.. Will I now have to have the BECM re-programed?

Thanks

What I found from lots of people's replies was that when changing anything attached to the security system/BECM is that each time something is replaced even if its a straight swap like the RF receiver, you must always ensure the battery is fully charged.

Once fully charged, keep the battery charger on the car to ensure that the battery doesn't continue to drain and maintains electrical stability whilst carrying out the work.

Your RR may only be suffering from phantom error messages and once hooked up to the BECM by way of a testbook, may clear them and cure your problem.

I say may, as at this point I'm unsure exactly what maybe wrong with the door electrics.

As your aware, the P38's Achilles heel is the RF receiver along with the cars electrical system. Being a £55K limousine 4X4, its rather obvious they spent 5 quid on the electrics....

I have an early P38 with the new RF receiver. Occassionally I get the Engine disabled press remote message. If I unlock the car and there is a delay before I insert the key into the ignition (e.g. because I'm putting stuff in the boot) I normally hear a sound like the rear doors unlocking and the engine start fine. Sometimes this doesn't happen (the unlocking sound) then when I try and start the engine I get the Engine disabled... message. I usually just do what it says and press the unlock on the remote (key in the ignition) and then the engine will start. It seems, when you insert the key in the ignition a signal is sent via the RF receiver to disable the immobiliser I can only conclude that this sometimes doesn't happen - ignition barrel failing to detect insertion of the key?? Pressing the unlock button is enough to clear the message and allow the engine to start.
Hope this helps,

Are you sure you have the latest version of the RF receiver? I only ask as there were 2 versions made.

YWY500010 - Which was an improvement on the old AFR1953 but still didn't cure the problem.

YWY500170 - Which finally cured it completely.

If you have the first revised version, that may account for the issue still occurring.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I thought I'd got the latest version but I'll check. It certainly cured my battery drain problem. I'm thinking the problem I have is more likely related to the ignition barrel occasionally failing to trigger correctly when the key is inserted. But I could be wrong.
