Has anyone got any recommendations for a good engine degreaser - there are loads of options out there (Gunk / Jizer etc) would be good to hear from you. have read previous postings on cleaning engines, don't think mine is too bad, was going to use old fashioned elbow grease before considering steam cleaning, pressure washing options. What do you all think? Thanks again.

I got a can of spray on stuff which was pretty good but my mate swears by cilit bang. Apparently its the dog baws for decreasing and the like and only costs like a quid from the pound shop

+1 for pressure washer. also paraffin and or petrol and a stiff brush

I just cleaned up my engine bay yesterday. Used a can of this stuff LINK (link just for reference. I picked some up from the pound shop about a year back)

Sprayed it onto a dry cold engine. Left it for about 10 mins then jetwashed it off. I was pretty surprised how well it worked. Defiantly going to be ordering more!

may of worked good for you. My concern is you are using corrosive chemical/acids . They mess up electrical connectors, just hope you don't have problems down the road

I tried to avoid getting it on any electrics (and obviously there isn't may electrical connections). I made sure that I jet washed it all off thoroughly and went out today when it was all dry and gave any electrics a coat of wd40

used white spirit on mine, and worked a treat, can get it really cheap too from the right places.
This combined with a jetwash would be good, I just used stiff brushes and rags and came up fine and clean enough to re-paint.

I usually do them with TFR or if I'm cleaning parts either a parts cleaner or petrol

+1 for TFR, its great stuff. Used a steam cleaner as well when I cleaned mine but the TFR will near enough shift the crud when used with a hose.

I got this stuff from Costco a while back. Dilute it with water. One bottle makes gallons of the stuff, and it works well.

I've never liked the idea of pressure washing an engine, but i'm sure if would remove a lot of muck. I've found parafin in a weed sprayer bottle to be very effective. The slightly pressurised spray tends to wash a lot of grime away, and a bit of agitation with a brush sorts the rest out. The problem with this approach is there are areas that you can't reach.

Marine clean from Frost Auto Restoration, ebay or internet it's flippin' great. Water based so there's no oily residue, brush it on and wash off with the hose. Job's a good one...

Parrafin in a garden sprayer, followed by pressure wash.

I use parafin and a pressure washer. Spray the parafin from a garden sprayer onto a warm engine. Let it sit for 15 minutes or so then get the pressure washer on it with the detergent connected. I have a petrol driven washer that will take the paint off if you are not careful. Of course I only do this where I wont make a mess or polute anything.

thats a great looking engine.... my V8 has about 1cm of crud on it...

oven cleaner foam! go to the pound shop! cleans anything that stuff! good for parts also!
