My W reg Freelander let me down for the first time Yesterday 18/06/2017 mini heatwave in Cornwall.
While going up one of my local B rd hills the engine died, popped the bonnet, no over heating checked visible wiring all seemed OK.
Got back in tried to start her she fired up, drove about half a mile then going down hill same thing happened again,.
Manged to limp the 2 miles home and parked her on the drive.
Thought I would ask this question in case anyone has had this problem before I start major surgery.
Thanks for any help in advance.

What motor?

If petrol K1.8 could be fuel vaporising in the fuel line. They don't have a fuel bypass back to the tank so slow moving petrol can vaporise. Make sure fuel line is away from anything warm under the bonnet.

If it's a TD4 check the low pressure fuel pump, put the ignition to position 2 and listen for a whirring noise from the rear driver's side wheel arch, it should stop after about 30 seconds. If there's no noise or the whirring is continuios, it's dying.

What engine do you have in the W reg FL as above if Td4 in could be the MAF unplug it, or it could be the under bonnet fuel pump, the pump was later moved to the rear OS wheel arch but only on later models, you may have to check in tank pump listen to that as well can it be heard working,

Yh i think w will be under the bonnet next to the fuel filter. If it's running loudly it may be running dry and then look to the one under the driver side rear seat. May be neither and then I have no idea!!

K series 1.8 petrol? failing fuel pump and / or clogged fuel filter [ it's below the pump]
