Hi All,

I have a Discovery 300 tdi ES Premium, the problem is this it starts and drive ok for approx 2 mile them the engine stops  , the fuse for engine management blows (satilite 1 fuse no 3 ) all the dash lights are ok as if the ignition is on except for the glow plug light. After changing the fuse it start fine and runs again for approx 2 mile and blows fuse again, engine stops ? Have replaced the glow plug relay/time as this also does other things there is no difference.

Any help in this matter would be grateful as i do not want to take it to the garage man ££££££££££ you know what i mean !

Hi sounds like some major short going on there. Try tracing the wires around the engine bay to see if there's something sparking onto something else.
I was under the impression a Diesel does not need power to run which is why they are used in marine occupations. Try to fuel pumping wires or any ECU's. You will have to get the resistance checked. Is the satnav standard or aftermarket fit ? I have a Vauxhall which did exactly the same thing it turned out to be the imobiliser on the fritz.

Can you get your hands on a replacement engine managment ECU/Module ? If so change it see if it's resolved the problem. If sat nav is aftermarket most likely it's wired in wrong. I'll keep thinking. If anyone has any other opinions they're always welcome

If it was the glow plug wiring or parts I think it would blow the fuse within a few seconds of turning the key. the eng will have a fuel cut off solenoid which is why it stops when the fuse blows (power to it disconnected). As charlotte says the only way to find the fault is to trace everything on that fuse and test them, disconnect and drive if possible and safe until you find the cause.

Hi All

Problem Sorted.

Wireing behind the engine had warn through, the wires were part of the loom for the EGR system and the brown wire to the starter solenoid. It had warn through on a bracket at the rear of the engine. Got some slack in the loom and lifted it over the rear of the engine to effect a repear taped it up and put a piece of pipe round it to protect it. Should last another 130,000 miles if not i will complain to Land Rover ! He He !

Thanks Charlotte and Sam for the support
