First a problem with ignition. Car parked for short period, start up, key into ignition - nothing, took the key and truned the key over - engine started. Happened again some 15 mins later - Same procedure, would not turn over with key turned over. Spare key into ignition - STARTED.
Following day involved in a traffic qeue going uphill, engine suddenly stops, will turn over on the key but no start, a couple of minuts tried again engine started, drove for 100 yards again engine abrutly stops, couple of minutes later same procedure - engine starts. Have travelled 100 miles since NO occurence. Please HELP i this has happened to you please tell me the reason I am baffled.

I'd be looking at the cut off solenoid for starters, not uncommon to have an iffy connection

It's on the rear of the injection pump and has a spade connection which can listen or get crap in it

Auto/manual? Year?
Dependant on above, stop solenoid, immobiliser/spider/edc.
Symptoms don't sound like fuel or air which is all a 300tdi needs to run, so it must be electrical side of things

Ignition switch renewed a year ago, had similar problem with key never really cured the ptoblem. Never had the engine cutout before. With the key problem there is no indication of engine turning ove,r whereas, when the engine cutout the key was sttill operating the starter.??????????

Have you checked the stop solenoid?

Yes terminal was rather messy, clean & polish so far so good. Tried checking for the ignition / key problem I suppose will only show when problem occurs.

I don't think the key will make any difference, if there is a chip it will be in the fob
