Hi all

Discovery has been parked in garage for about 4 days and not run, moved it this morning and there was a small patch of water under the engine on the floor smells of antifreeze. Looked about the engine but could not see any signs of leaks, moved out side and put a bit of card under engine and just went out and there is a very small wet spot of water on the card.

But cant find or see any leaks and it is obviously leaking when engine is not running so could it still be a P gasket or water pump gasket or would these only leak with engine running? I know these are common on the 300tdi engine is there any other problem areas I should be looking at?

pointless fitting parts blindly ,start her up and get here warm ,in theory you should be able to see the leak or steam as the coolant evaporates off the hot engine

Yes it could be as any of the cooling system gaskets and seals can fail, also it could be an iffy core plug or as simple as a loose jubilee clip.

Cheers both h I suppose best bet is tale her out to warm up come home and then have a look, could the gaskets leak when engine is not running? And hope it's not a core plug as don't sound like an easy or cheap fix?

core plug would be cheaper than p gasket but easyness depends on which core plug ,id leave it ticking over to warm up instead of going for a drive more chance of seeing the leak

Cheers not gonna have time to look before weekend now just hope it's a gasket or core plug and nothing else?

A common mistake usually made when changing out the water pump on 300Tdi's is to leave the old or original "P" gasket in place, it very rarely re-seals properly after fitting a new pump as the 3 long through bolts on the bottom tail end of the pump also hold the water pump/alternator bracket to the front of the engine, this is where a lot of mysterious coolant leaks stem from, sometimes hard to detect as the coolant tracks in hard to see into places.
