Good afternoon all

Looking for some advice and insit into the project I have started, and was wondering if anyone on here has put the 300tdi EDC automatic engine from discovery into a 3 series defender ?

Currently trying to work off Steve parkers walk through, but any other ideas and help would be much appreciated

Look forward to hearing from you

Afraid not, done a 200tdi on a series box.

Do you need an auto? If so, then I can understand it's a requirement. If not, it's just making things a lot more complex. And frankly there are probably better vehicles to convert if you are going to keep literally nothing of the Series left. That is unless you building a full on coiler comp vehicle of some kind.

Likewise I can't see the appeal of the 300 conversion. Loads more work than slapping a 200 in there and for absolutely zero gain.

If you really want a leaf sprung automatic 4x4 I'd say look at the vehicle that inspired the Land Rover, i.e. A Jeep. Either a YJ Wrangler if you don't mind a little more modern, or look for CJ.

As to if it's possible to fit a 300 auto to a Series. Yes, but will require welding, custom short rear prop (assuming its an 88) and loads of work, plus you'll end up with non standard interior panels that'll need butchering most likely.

It'd be easier to just remove the body from a Disco and slap a Series/Defender style body on it tbh. Either retaining the 100" wheelbase or chopping it down to 88".

BTW - a Series is NOT a ****ing Defender!! ;)

Obviously it's yours, and rightly still a free country but number one question is why? Original S3's are coming up in value, a more modern, smoother, more powerful engine will be nice but you're still on leaf springs and drums - in short it's still a Series!
Keep it original, spend conversion money on restoration and enjoy it - and your investment............... good luck
