Not 100% about that, the moving parts shouldn't actually touch when moving, they are floating on a thin film of the pressurised oil.
Not saying you are wrong, just that I don't know.

What I do know is that actually pumping the oil around the engine takes a surprising amount of energy.
Last year, I changed the oil in the Series from 10/40 to 20/50, partly because of the very hot weather last year, but also because I got a good deal on the 20/50.
During a recent cold start on a bitterly cold day, I was surprised by how sluggish cranking speed has become.
I know it is the oil, because once the engine is up to temperature, it spins over at normal speed if you switch off and restart.

Plus talking of the series engines my old series 3 petrol safari never missed a beat and started on the button come rain or shine

Block pre-heaters, like a kettle element screwed into the block, are common in Canada.
They do, of course, require a good electrical supply reasonably close to the vehicle.

Series always starts, just takes a bit longer when it hasn't been used for a few months in winter.
 
Beta Kubota is more capable than any engine fitted in a road vehicle in 30 years.

Mostly because it doesn't have a turbocharger, or any form of emissions control. :):)

I was thinking of volvo penta, which also means you can legally rape peoples wallets!

Series petrol, nearly as thirsty as a v8!

People seem to have mixed experiences of those. Some run them for years with very little problem, others seem to struggle.
Not sure why, but it could be that under-use is a contributing factor.
Parts were always expensive for Swedish stuff, I had several Saab cars over the years. Brilliant when they ran, but expensive when they didn't.
 
do know my dad sold the steering column, 'by mistake' and now can't replace it :eek: or rather posted the wrong one :( and couldnt get it back
 
Talking about engines and tight tolerances I once heard that F1 engines are virtually seized when cold and won’t turn over until the oil and block is warmed up to then allow them to start due to the extreme tolerances

of course that may be total bull and with me not having that kind of knowledge that many of u have its well above my pay grade

plus might as well throw in another daft question so only get bits thrown at me once, lol
