Hello all,
What's the best way to clean all the mud and c**p away from under the bonnet??
Is it okay to get the jet wash going under there, or is it too brutal on the electrics, pipework etc??
Is there another way??
Cheers

I have jet washed many engines petrol and diesel just make sure not to blast away at the electrics to hard and you should be fine. do pay more attention if you have a petrol engine as HT leads plugs and dizzy caps don't like water. if you think you have hit a sensitive area to hard just plaster it in wd40.;)

What really helps is before jet washing, use a bucket of Gunk (or a n other cleaner) and a scrubbing (or pot) brush. Amazing the difference a detergent makes to an oily engine block.

Warm the engine up first as it softens the oily crap.
I did my TD5 but instead of detergent I ran parafin through the detergent feed.
No exactly environmentaly friendly but it works and it was all I had.
Jet washed the driveway afterwards (not mine) and it came up lovely.
Some time spent with brushes to shift the stubborn stuff does not go amiss either before jet washing.

Cant get the muddy brown stuff off the paintwork under the bonnet of mine at all.
Seems to be stained with the stuff, I think it's welsh mud if that helps so any one any ideas, I've done the jet wash and nowt appened and I tried a scrubber but she give up after about five minutes so I left it..

Mud (usually clay) is incredibly resistant to water removal. You need a detergent to break it down. Trouble is you dont want masses of detergent in your engine bay, so the best way as always is a small area at a time with lots of elbow grease. As fer the scrubber get an older one there usually more eager to please:D :D :D

the way i do mine is i warm up engine then spray with jet wash once i have done that i spray whole engine with tfr (traffic film remover) then leave fore few minuites and jetwash off again comes up lovely
