£8,000 repair bill for a new engine on a 4 year old Freelander !!!

my 2008 Freelander2's engine is written off !! after just 75K miles. LR say the con rod has been bent, is nothing to do with us as owners, has been serviced properly, but because its out of warranty we have to pay half of the £8,800 repair bill !!!

What a joke JLR are !!!

Is this really what we should expect from a 4 year old car, with 75K miles on the clock......an £8K repair bill and a new engine ?

So my question is, how do I get JLR to accept they should make a much higher contribution level ?

any assistance or recent experience would be very much appreciated.

thank you!

Con rods don't bend for no reason. Have there been any other problems with the engine that can have caused this?

You been driving through water ? Because that's the only thing I've heard that can bend a Conrod ! Don't fix it through JLR for gods sake why do you think it's so expensive

thanks for quick replies.

LR are a bit vague on the likely cause.....they say it could be due to running on no oil, or at extreme heat, neither of which we noticed or are accurate.

Interested in what legal action anyone thinks we should pursue ?

thanks again for any help.

NOne at all you'll be wasting your money. I'm surprised LR have even offered to part fund the repair. As they are under no obligation to do so whatsoever.

there is absolutely no way that you will be able to prove that the damage occurred as a result of negligence on the part of LandRover or JLR (Whoever they are) or the the product sold wasn't fit for purpose.

Get a replacement engine and get a Indy garage to fit it.

#### me that is expensive-I'd pay nothing like that at machine shop

Seams strange to bend con rod

electronic fuel injector sticks open and they do( hydro lock). All you got to do is have the engine checked out and replace the con rods, way cheaper fix.

I had a injector do that hydro locked got lucky no damage:D other wise a 10k repair bill

BMW/FORD electronic injectors do and there has been problems with them, several law suits going on against ford at the moment.
