Redex - what memories !. Remove a plug, thimble full of redex & wait for the neighbours to call the fire brigade.

I've also done this once on my 1.8K when i had a misfire... works great and really cleans it out.

I can actually see where G-Man is coming from about the air filter, i suppose if it is really clogged up then it could affect it somewhat. Imagine putting the filter in front of your face and then breathing through it, not too good eh? I'd check the air filter just to be on the safe side.

the guy wants to cut corners - no point in helping.

You dont cut corners with a 1.8 unless you are either stupid or a masochist

That's why we took three days replacing the head & doing it perfectly including oil rail etc. I am not cutting corners but I am also avoiding having to spend a fortune only to be told that, for example, I need a Cat when there is really little wrong.

I plan to change the air filter, run some injector cleaner, check the wiring to the Oxy sensor & then retest before spending more.

Only just read this thread & am amazed or should it be amused that after going to all the trouble with the cylinder head you've skimped on an air filter for over three years to what end I really don't know. Change what all the guys here have told you to change & if all else fails it's worth running some cataclean additive through. Car Mechanics magazine tested this stuff about a year ago on various MOT failure cars & found that it was able to get cars with your emmission readings through assuming you've serviced the damn thing, there are no other faults you're aware of & suspect it's the cat.
Like G-man I don't think you'll have to go that far & suspect it's all down to your non-existent maintenance regime.

**** me!!!!!! chromium agreeing with me!!!!!

i'm honoured and a little bit moved!!! :D ;)

oh an aye that caraclean stuff is meant to be good! we sell it at work but it shouldn't need it if even a basic service schedule is kept

I am glad that my lack of air filter has united the forum !. No my Cat is not rattling & the rest of the exhaust is good.

You'd stand a better chance of passing your emmissions if you did lack an air filter but you've neglected yours - there is a difference. I take it you have changed plugs & (if fitted) distributor cap/rotor arm at the recommended intervals? This really is basic stuff you know.

...gosh...:D:D:D

So are we suggesting that I take the new filter out for the test ?. Most service items were changed during the head change 3 months ago.

NO change the fooker !!!!!!!!! FFS :5btoetap05::5btoetap05::frusty:

But Chromium has said that it stands a better chance with the filter out. Has your agreement to agree come to an end ?

i tell thee yer hard work! i do believe he was referencing you lack of maintenance and the airfilter being full of ****e! not having an airfilter would stand a better chance of passing than having one clogged with ****e rather than taking a new one out and driving it without one at all.....

i'll does yers a favour!!1

i have just got me fram filters book out and the filter yers want is a CA5657 which using the cross reference guide is a landrover part ESR4103
