Yeah bummer innit, felt good when the crank went in right finally though lol

I would do a 3.5 efi next time with off the shelf uk std bits to get my hand in first before a rare foreign motor lol

re 6.2...

just finished honeing bores, fitting new rings, big ends and main bearings...

check dis!!!

I HATE EBAY.."you will be happy with engine, its excellent!!" ****ERS. still it will be soon..BUT AT A COST..pic is of a main bearing on main number 2...

oh changing the rear crank oil seal with engine insitu was a "giggle"

I bet lol, mind you those bearings look better than the copper colour ones I pulled out of my "runner" from a well known and respected lr spares place

yeah...rhe oe seal was rope.but the replacement was neoprene...what a barstatd to fit!

bearings includimg big ends where quite good..except that one shown..still gm nitride their cranks, so crank was a1...

heads go on tomorrow...

had a horrible thought though..think i know why smoked....too low a pressure from lecky lift pump to ip, causing ip to run retarded advance....cure £30 pump....opps.

so...once this 6.2 engine rebuilt and running, which to keep??

4.6 supercharged or 6.2 diesel turbo??

i thinks the rv8..with the steptronic autobox...i recon the turbo 6.2 will sell for circa 1500..that will help the bank account..and to be honest i am truely fecked off with it..though it might half go well...i expect circa 250hp and 500 torque at 1 bar boost..thats before lpg and water/meth injection, so add another 10-20% to that...

how did that shell split, it doesnt look worn to the copper let along right through?

Thats is a costly fix but it wouldnt have lasted long with a shell in two halves

looks like po rebuilt engine..but was super cowboy.just put old bearings back in..looks like locking tabs on bearings not there,MAINS WHERE SET AT 50torques not 110 as they should have been...so bearing has spun around..somehow prehaps caught and just ripped inhalf..guessing here..but fortunatly main shell housing and crank perfect, just bearing fecked..
po didnt even install rocker cover gaskets, just rtv...want a ####!

heads are excellent however, as is block and crank etc...just the way it was reassembled left ALOT to be desired..ie..head bolts go into wet liner, that is unless you use locktight on head bolts water from collent jacket WILL creep up bolts into rocker area etc...BUT po had just squited rtv down head bolts..

so an awlfull lot of cash later (new injection pump, new injectors, new rings, new bearings, new turbo, gaskets etc)i hope this 6.2 is about to rock!!atleast till i sell it!

yep..

if want it done proper do it your bloody self!!!lol

got loads of pics to back up rebuiid, so next owner (if i dont keep) will atleast have proof its been done proper like!!lol

how can you know it was a pro ,and how do you know bolts were set wrong there are many reasons for bolts on a used engine not to be correct,

PRO??? where i say pro???? PO. PREVIOUS OWNER

engines dont build them bloody selves without gaskets etc...it sure didnt leave gm factory like that!!sold to me by the #### who obviously rebuilt/bodged it up..

tis no way it had done many miles like it or it would be scrap..

i am furious about it..i would never sell something as good knowing its duff..its just not right...

still next owner of this engine (if i sell it) will atleast get a good un.though i may drive it around abit..should be fun 500 torques in a 2 door..

a good few do though, thats why they sell as you know, internet is full of tech stuff but lacking in the mechanical basics, ive never seen an understanding of what nominal size means

heads on,sump on....still to reconnect fuel injector lines and intake manifold, exhaust crossover etc..maybe fire up tomorrow?

you know you said rocker covers were just on with rtv and you didnt like it.

pretty sure thats what you are supposed to do on the rv8 sumps now, what you reckon?

Cork sump gaskets seem to always leak on rv8
