Hi guys I have finally decided to sort out the dead freelander ( cam belt tensioner collapsed and wrote off engine). I have been offered a 1.8 lotus elise engine with low mileage and service history, what I want to know is is it just a case of drop it in and go or do I have to swap anything over.
Thanks Mel

thats what I was hoping for, it seems to good to miss low miles with history and has had the uprated head gasket done by lotus specialist.

Its the same basic engine and should fit fine but you might need to swap some of the old engines ancillaries over. Unless its a VVC engine then your Freelander ECU and wiring loom wont have the correct plugs to fit the sensors

Its just the standard 1.8 118bhp from a S1 elise, the reason the engine is available is because he has swapped his for a vvc, so fingers crossed it will do the job.

Which 1.8 engine is in your FL? Dizzy cap or coil packs

Its a straight swap if like for like

You might want to check out the link below, Elise S1 for full spec

Hope you haven't paid over the odds for it, it's just a bog standard K-series after all, the Metro boys make that mistake all the time! All but the very late S1's were dizzy, but either way it's a simple case of just swapping the inlet cam from engine to engine if needed. Your FL loom will plug and play so no worries there. Fit a new belt, tensioner and w/pump before you fit it, and a new inlet manifold gasket. Might as well do the cam seals whilst your in there, too/ You'll need to swap you FL flywheel/clutch assembly onto it as the Lotus one uses the Rover car flywheel which has a smaller clutch. You may also need to use the FL O/S lower side mount (the bit that bolts to the side of the block) as the Elise use the MGF one, which is slightly different.

Thanks they are both dizzy type engines, I have paid half the price of the second hand engines that are listed on ebay, none of which have any history, so I'm hoping Ive struck it lucky with this one.
