Hi,
So this morning I have been attempting to fit my pair of air horns to the new disco. I had installed them on the Vitara a while ago with no problems but this morning I have been racking my brains over it.

There is a relay with: 2 permanent live feeds, the switched feed from the horn switch and an output to the compressor. The compressor has the feed from the relay and an earth.

Now I connected everything up apart from the feed from the horn switch which I tapped on the live terminal to check that the compressor would kick in - it didn't.

It did however start when I touched this wire onto the earth!

I can't see what I have got the wrong way around as it is exactly the same as I had it in the jeep :(

Any advice anyone?
Cheers, Max

if it is a relay - it doesnt have 2 perm live feeds!

look in the Q's and A's bit for relay data - or post up here the relay ID numbers.

I know it shouldn't but it is designed to be installed with a selector switch to choose between normal horns and air horns, but I wanted the air horns to work straight off the normal switch and it seemed the way to override not having the selector switch there was to provide another feed.
Will have a look there,
Cheers, Max

reet - i think i know how it is wired (pure guesswork) - put up the relay id numbers and i will tell yu how to wire it up.

is it a 5 connector relay?

relay-diag3.gif

30 live from battery
85 live from horn switch
86 earth
87 to air horns
87A to alternate horn

Sorted it now, was a 4 connector, one of the ones i thought was a perm live feed was an earth from the relay according to the diagram supplied with a set of dixie horns I've got lying in the workshop (both supplied with the same relay).
The wiring diagrams were crap but I managed to draw some sense from them, it's a 4 connector relay with the following connectors:

30 - Perm live feed
85 - Switched feed from horn switch
86 - Earth
87 - Output to compressor

Thanks for the advice, it's much appreciated, you've got some really useful stuff in the Q&A section.
Thanks again, Max
