Hi i have a 1995 p38 4.6 hse the other day i was just driving and the engine just cut out had loads of alarms and now the engine will not turn over there is nothing on the key past point two garage is stuck anyone any ideas please

no when it went to garage it only had abs and air bag alarm when it stopped it went transmision fault and ignition fault but they never reapeared i am getting to the 14 lb hammer point lol

Isn't there a starter relay in the fuse box?

Mind you, if it cut out, starter relay should still kick in.... That model year have plenty leccy trickery gremlins

Is it possible (and I have seen this as well as experienced it) the starter was still engaged while the engine was running, so it may have burned out, taking fuses & relays...

Have you tried checking for power at the starter? I mean the main + feed as well as the solenoid feed with a digital volt meter?

Check all fuses first to rule out any blown ones

Smell the under bonnet fuse box - if it smells burnt, its fecked....they have been known to get warm, melt and then short out!

Thanks have left a message with garage who knows it could be the reason i am learning but not about to give up i do love the car

No afraid not just dead all works up untill final turn

Just to restate the obvious: you turn the key to position 2 and all lights and everything works as it should. You turn to the crank position and nothing? You release the key back to position 2 and the lights on the dash all reappear?

The garage have narrowed the problem down to the fuse box it seems to have lost half of its earth for some reason maybe its a total fuse box change as they got it to start but only by by passing bits it wasn't happy but closer to the reason for the issue

Silly,, a flat battery that would cause engine to cut out and not restart .but enough to light the dash.:(

It does sound like fuseboard overheat, cutting all power for a few seconds, & in this process it has broken the link between the gems ecu & the becm.

It may also be the battery has gone haywire.

Either way, shouldn't be to expensive as long as they get the correct diagnosis & not fire the parts gun at it.

Hi folks it turned out to be a problem with the brain sending a positive signal to the fuel pump instead of negative blowing the relay its now been bypassed but now not running very smoothly until i can get a new brain but at least i have transport being disabled very important thanks for all your ideas and suggestions.
