My New Years resolution was to finish my project by the end of the year and as always I’m going to need your help to accomplish this!

With that in mind I’m trying to work out how to rewire my car, and I need to find out which chassis number this fuel pump (VDO 220-801-011-001z) belongs to, it goes with plastic tank from a 300tdi td5, if that makes sense?

My logic is get that loom from auto sparks for the rear and the front, then modify the front to work with a 200tdi, any thoughts?

Oh yeah, happy new year!!!

300tdi and td5 are completely different engines.
The 200 TDI does not need an in tank pump, it has one fitted to the block and is mechanicly driven off the camshaft.

Sorry, I meant the later 300tdi which is in a td5 body (or at least that’s what I have been led to believe)

From a quick google search, that “fuel pump” is actually a basic fuel sender. It’s a 2 wire, 2 pipe connection, isn’t it? The Land Rover part number is WQB100430. It’s from a 90, from 1998 onwards. It’s one of the ones I have been looking at fitting to my rebuild. It would be easier for you to use the existing 200tdi rear wiring loom and purchase the correct connector for that fuel sender.

A 300tdi defender and TD5 look basically the same, with the exception of the rear crossmember. The TD5 engine uses a 4 pipe connection fuel pump. As far as I know, no one has successfully made one work with a TDI engine.

What are you trying to do with your project? Is it an old 200tdi that you are putting a new chassis under?

Ah ok thank you, that gives me something I can work with.

You are correct it is a basic pump with two pipes and two wires, as for my project I want to carry out a complete new rewire (peace of mind) and it’s a blank canvas so to speak, I have a 2009 body which will be going on a 200tdi Richards Chassis, on which I have the additional TD5 rear cross member as an optional extra (this was originally to allow me to fit two tanks, but that seems like too much hassle and is probably beyond my capabilities). It has a 200tdi engine and I did purchase a complete 200tdi loom, but this was just for reference.

Whilst writing this, I’m now thinking you maybe right maybe I should just buy a complete new loom for a 200tdi from auto sparks, my problems/concerns is

Not a fan of these bullet type connections

I have a TD5 bulk head/dash and would prefer it to plug and play so to speak

Don’t have any numbers that auto sparks can work with, which is where my though of trying to find the chassis range that works with the sender and order that complete loom and modify it to suit

Does that make any sense?......... sorry

You will be very lucky to get a combination of wiring looms that is plug and play from a 200tdi to TD5 dash. Retroanaconda has done a very comprehensive account of what you need and how to wire it up, so you can drive the TD5 dash from a 200tdi. It’s what I’m doing with my current rebuild. It isn’t very complicated, but is time consuming.

If you are intent on new wiring, get full 200tdi wiring looms, replace the connectors for any type want (other than bullets) and away you go. You will need new connections for the dash, and fuel sender anyway, so the looms will need to be modified, unless autosparks will send you the looms with the connectors you want, or better still no connectors so you can fit your own.

That’s a really good read and has given me another option... thanks for the advice.

Maybe keeping it as per the 200tdi might be the way forward, surely they could do an updated version, I’ll send them an email tomorrow and see what options they give me.

Don’t suppose we have a part number for that particular part of the loom, best I could find is https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/td5-fuel-sender-plug.302542/

I wouldn’t know the PN for the loom “off hand”. It’s not something I have looked for. I’m happy using my current loom and making it do what I want. Contrary to popular advice, I’m also sticking with the bullet connectors.

Forgot to add, if you want connectors at a decent price, @PaulMc is the resident supplier. He sells on eBay, or used to, but I think he gives a better deal on here from what I have read.

Thank you :D

You can contact me through this thread, or by PM

I have a shop on eBay - https://www.ebay.co.uk/str/landroverconnectors
But, I don't (yet) have everything on there, and I can do stuff a bit cheaper on here, without eBay's fees.

No problem. I have seen you offer connectors on various threads, but never purchased from yourself as I had access to an RS Comp account. I don’t have that access any longer, so if I get stuck, you will be my go to guy!

Ahh thank you very much, I’ll be in touch soon, my attention has been diverted I’m afraid, it’s her 40th and I’m trying to arrange a surprise for her, the way I see it.... if I get it right then I can spend more time in here without her moaning as much;)

Sorry to bring up my old thread but I'm still desperately looking for the plug to fit the fuel pump in the picture attached.

A quick recap it's a "VDO 220‑801‑011‑001Z" and as Mick1986 said it's just a basic sender from a 1998 onwards, with 2 wires and 2 pipes..

Give me a few days to dig out part numbers. I have VDO WQB100440, which I think is the same connector, and purchased my bits from RS. If you can’t wait that long, contact @PaulMc he will be able to help.

That would be much appreciated!!

Parts links as the link in the other thread to polevolt didn’t work for me.

Connector:

Connector lock:
Can’t find this on RS, probably why I don’t have any for my connector.

Pins:

(Check the cable size them pins can take)
