Hi all

I have been chasing problems round my serise 2a for the last couple of weeks. First when i pressed the starter button i lost all power, i cleaned up all the earths then found that the starter would turn but there was no spark. I chased that problem and found a loose terminal screw on the voltage regulator. Ok fixed that and now when i press the starter button again i lose all power.

I checked the voltage on the battery and with the ignition switched on the voltage swlowly drops down to below 6V, when i turn the ignition off the battery slowly builds back to around 10V (battery was low due to fault finding). Not sure if its connected but with the ignition on i can hear a low buzz.

The old girl will jump start and run fine until turned off then she wont start again.

Anyone got any ideas.

Cheers
Rob

well it certainly sounds like its flat. if its newish, it might just need a good charge.

your new battery has probably been drained down by the old switches leaking down to earth while it was sitting, seen that happen a few times. did it start alright when the battery was new??

i was just sorting some lights on my S3 tonight and found loose wires and dodgy connections all over the place, might be worth havin a look behind your dash to see if there is anything hanging off or loose.

If the battery has been allowed to sit for a few weeks or more really "flat" it may not take a full charge ever again. If you have any doubt about your dynamo or regulator, then keep charging the battery often until the dodgy problem is fixed.

This may be a silly question but is it possible to put an alternator on without changing the wiring? or removing the voltage regulator?

the reason im asking is because a mate put a new engine in some time back then the landy sat for a couple of months, had a new battery and since then i have been haveing these problems?

Im at work at the moment but i will check if it to make sure it is a dynimo tonight.
