carried out the upgrade, took the viscous off and shroud and fitted a manual overide switch. The stat was missing so fitted a new one.
Rangey runs well and gets to the 12 oclock position and i get heat from the heater now so all good
BUT i left her idle and waited until the needle was at 12 oclock and adjusted the adjustable stat to work the fan.Even after 15 mimnutes the fan is still on and the temp has risen to the highest white almost first red line.I put the interior heater on on high and checked the rad hoses.Top hose where the stat bulb is,is moderately warm, the bottom hose is bloomin hot.The engine temperatue gauge was still rising so i took her for a run, The temperature started dropping to the 12 oclock position.Pulled over and found the fans still running, again the top hose is warm but not scalding but the bottom one is really hot.
I checed the stat before i fitted it and it was opening at 80 degrees. The aadjustable stat I checked and that was clicking in at the right temperature. The bulb itself is fitted on the outside of the top house and is fitted with insulation.Because I was worried about any leaks i might have caused i reused the original antifreeze.
I.m a bit worried about temperature ,understandable i had a triumph stag once. So I need to call on your guys experience
Should i drain and refill with red 50 /50 five year life and try it,or
Is the rad blocked internally and the water isnt flowing through the fins hence the cool matrix,or is it the water pump failing and not pushing the water around in sufficient amounts. Dont think its the later as the interior heater now works fine.
Or could i have head issues? I dont have any excess pressure in the top tank and ive no water in the oil issues or water smoke from the exhaust.
Ive only had the rangey a 1996 p38 diesel auto since October and she was running cool ,well cold until I put the stat in. I think the previous owner may have had this issue and sneakily removed the thermostat so it looked as though there were no heating issues.
BTW the rangey runs a lot smoother with the gauge at 12 oclock, seems more responsive and to me sounds better and smoother so id like to keep her at the "normal" place on the gauge if possible. She starts warm a heck of a lot better as well.
I need to get her sorted as i soon have to tow a 3 tonne trailer and hopefully, well we all believe in miracles,we might have a warm summer!!!!!!!!
Forgot to say that when i took her on the run to cool her off it was 2 degrees outside.
All.any help gratefully received
