Hello, my battery is losing its charge on my l reg 200tdi disco. I can't pinpoint where the problem is. So far i've tried having someone stand and test the battery whilst I remove each fuse thinking this may give me some idea, but it didn't. The battery light is constantly on when the engine is turned off. The alternator is charging as it should. I noticed when I drove through a puddle that the battery light flicked on when the water splashed so I don't know if that helps at all. any ideas??

Check earth straps ... I'd put a new one between battery and chassis and engine block and chassis and make sure the alternator earth lead is good. Your Alternator may be putting out a charge, but if it ain't reaching the battery it's not going to charge it ... ;)

Hi if your battery light is on constantly when switched off you have a faulty altenator remove it and ask a auto electrician place or retailer that has testing facilities to run a bench test most places will do this free or for a small fee but either way it will be worth the trouble.

It did turn out to be the alternator, it was somehow leaking back through the alternator even though it was charging. I've removed a couple wires from the back of the alternator and this made the battery light go out, but i dunno if its gonna do my electrics any good to run it without these wires attached:confused:. but it'l have to do until i get myself another alternator. thanks for the help

The alternator needs an exciter voltage to be able to start working. Without that - it wont charge and yo battery will just go flat.
