Hi All

Why did I try and open the clunking front window one last time 'just to see'...!!?

Now it's stuck 1/4 open and hits the motor current stop on the way up - there's obviously something jamming it!

Hopefully will get a chance to work out how to remove the inner panels and investigate this week....

Any thoughts/tips/help?

Probably the "regulator" broke. They're about £25 ish and you move the motor across to the new one if its still good.
Did my passenger door one last year, took an hour. The welds often break on the actual moving arms pivot point
Just follow your nose to get the panels off. (Undo all screws, then it "pops" off)
You'll prob need to unbolt the regulator from the window (I held the window up with insulation tape!) get it out, swap it over and reverse process.

My drivers window stopped working the other day, woke up one morning and it wouldnt work, it worked 10 mins later then stopped again, ill let you know what i find out when i get a chance to take a look!
 
Spot on Dave, had the panel off this evening, window 'regulator' trashed with two of the three welds gone on the other two arms also bent to pieces, the one supposed to be connected to the door completely detached!

Great news re cost and looks like a home job which is even better...

Only question remaining is which aftermarket assembly to purchase: Britpart, Allmakes or BearMach? Or is it worth buying an original?

Personally I wouldn't spend more than the £25. I'd be suspicious if you find one a lot cheaper tbh.
But the £85 ones on your link are a joke unless they come with a new motor!

Gone for the AllMakes only because they are ISO9001:2008 rather than ISO9001:2000...Bought a pair as I suspect the passenger side is also on its way out, heard a couple of clicks and clunks yesterday when testing.

New parts ordered and hopefully despatched tomorrow :) We'll see.

The 85 quid ones are OEM, hence the cost ;-)

when mine stopped workin it was the 3 spot welds that had failed..

took it apart, drilled through and puddle welded it back together..

took an hour, cost nothing..
 
When my window clunked and failed it turned out one of the rollers had come off and the power of the motor managed to completely fold in half the X-shaped lifting mechanism. Cost £5 for a second hand one from the local scrappy!
 
Lakes Rob - yep that's exactly what's happened to mine, rollers off, one weld or maybe two gone and a mangled X mechanism!

I'll post a couple of pics later ;-)
 
All fixed now :) First door took about 2 hours as I was fiddling about working out how the door trip came off for most of it. Second door from start to finish 50 minutes :) Ended up receiving the Bach regulators. Gave them a good greasing with thick grease for the motor cog interface and white spray grease for the sliding mechanisms.

The driver's side failed because whoever changed it last (it had clearly been changed) didn't grease the sliders! :-(

I changed the passenger side as a matter of course, especially as I heard a clunk from it a few days ago, glad I did, it was also only supporting the glass by one arm rather than two!

My drivers side window has just started doing the same thing. The motor doesn't stop when it gets to the end of the crescent shaped cog which then goes too far past the small cog on the motor to be able to raise the window again.

I've searched on here and YouTube, is there a fix for this or do I need a new regulator mechanism? The motor and runners all appear fine, it's just the motor that fails to stop that causes the mechanism to jam and fail.
