engine light comes on after deleting it reads 401 fault egr runs ok but a bit slow up to 2000 revs
I had a mondeo with a faulty egr stuck open. It smoked a bit on harder acceleration and gear change. Having said that, if it's faulty I'd be tempted to put a blanking plate in rather that just disconnecting.

ive cleared faults and unplugged egr valve now it picks up instantly and pulls like a train is it ok to run like this engine seems much loser and happier

ive been reading about some guys in africa with egr problems they unplug with no problems except engine light on one chap bought a cheap chinese egr plugged into it and cable tied it to the engine ecu things all ok no light another undone the back of valve and took out gear wheel so motor runs but valve stays shut no light ,if you unplug egr it will mostly be shut so blanking a waste of time so unplug and remap end of problem these chaps do about 2000 k a day on tarmac and off road no problem
i unplugged mine and tried it picks up better than ever might just get remap to put light out
any thoughts lads ..?.?

IIRC the valve closes as you accelerate, this reduces the flow of exhaust gas being diverted in to the cylinders and allows more oxygen in, which is required to burn the extra fuel for acceleration. This would indicate that yours was sticking open if it wasn't pulling well up to 2000 revs. If it's running better at the moment it might have unstuck, so now might be a good time to disconnect it.
