Hello forum,I've recently noticed my EGR Valve is cutting into my radiator hose, obviously this happens when the engine moves so I'm wondering if I have excessive engine movement (bad mounts) or is it a common fault?it is for me because this is my third 2.5 P38 two of which I still own,my first P38 had the same problem and my spare which is in storage I've not had chance to check but I'm sure it will and if it does then thats all three that have had the problem, just seems strange I can't find anybody else within this forum and others who's experienced the same.
The valve was in contact with the hose so as a temporary fix I've zip tied the coolant hose to the intercooler hose giving about a 10mm clearance from the valve,I guess you could refit the hose with a bit of a twist or secure with a zip tie to something a bit more secure but would really appreciate your opinions and advice before I decide what to do,thanks.

After looking further into my problem I've found it may be possible to remove the EGR valve and blank it off,I've not been able to find much on P38 owners doing this so again some advice would be appreciated.
I'm just worried about upsetting the ECU and having to get it plugged in or finding I've wasted my time and need to refit the valve.

Many threads on EGR removal; many have done it with no adverse comments. Many report more power/economy.... what you waiting for?,

Firstly I've just had a look under my bonnet and I can easily fit a finger between my rad hose and the EGR assembly so I think you've got a problem. Maybe a replacement hose might be an answer?

As for removing the EGR as DATA says there are all the new MOT regs coming in soon so it might be as well to wait and see what happens.

If you wanted to do away with the EGR to see if it improves power or whatever then I have read of people blocking it partially or fully with items ranging from coins to copper pipe ends.

The EGR valve only operates when the engine is cold and inefficient. It recirculates exhaust gas into inlet to burn off any unburnt fuel you get with cold running. The bull**** you read on Ebay about restricting air flow, is just that bull****. As the air is forced in under pressure from the turbo any restriction is minimal. It is the hot gas going in that is the problem. Just remove feed pipe and block it off with a suitable sized disc. Undetactable and will pass the MOT.

it does lead to some cokeing off manifold and its usually the prevention of leaking that i remove them but just by blocking valve to manifold with tin gasket ,removing wont increase power overall unless it was leaking

Yes James i agree, if it is full of crap. But cleaned and blocked off flow restiction is minimal.

Just looked at mine and there is more than 25mm between the hose and the EGR valve. Either you have the wrong hose fitted or the right hose badly fitted.

This happened to me several years ago soon after I bought my 2000 DSE.
I was towing my caravan up a steep motorway incline in the south of France and the top hose burst. I discovered the hose was rubbing on the EGR valve but only when the engine flexed in its mountings under high torque load.
Solo it was OK. It was the original hose and was fitted like this by the factory.

Needless to say I made sure the replacement hose was fitted with a big clearance gap. You can do this by twisting the hose when in place before clamping tight. I also now carry spare hoses!
