Strange thing for a dealer to suggest when buying off em.... was it accompanied by any other info? or anything out the ordinary?

Exhaust gas Recirculator, it does what it says on the tin. It ciculates the exhaust gasses thru the turbo, in order to reduce the emissions. But all it does in reality is clog the intercooler and turbo hoses up with cack, and reduces the efficiency of the intercooler by warming up the cooled air that is heading for the turbo.

Hi Redhand, the EGR valve when open does not allow exhaust gases to passes through the turbo, it pipes these gases back directly into the inlet manifold.

So they never passes through the intercooler so cannot be the source of cacking it up, (or any heating of the inlet air). That will be down to lubricating oil from the turbo being passed by the airstream through the intercoler.

The only place where EGR cack collects is in the inlet manifold.

Thanks for the response all. Dealer didnt say anything odd. (a few friends/family have bought and had no trouble at all.) Better get the parts ordered to do the job. Once again thanks everybody for your replies.
