Hello again,
Was wondering if anyone knew if I removed my EGR and blanked off before I drive the 1hr 45mins over to Alive Tuning for my remap that the TD5 engine/ECU wouldn't know what was going on and put me in limp mode.
 
My lad has an EGR delete fitted on his TD5 (he fitted just after christmas), it hasn't been remapped yet and it runs perfectly fine. There is an electrical connection that needs disconnecting but I couldn't tell you which except it was up under the front wing!
 
TD5s EGRs are mechanical and dont need mapping out. You can blank it off no problems.

Only Pumas require the EGR to be "turned off" at the ECU.

It is. Having just been for an MOT today - the tester did spend some time looking to make sure the little darling was all present and correct - even followed the vac pipework back to the valve, and made sure that was connected too..... :)

Got a nice clean ticket to show for me efforts too :)

A thorough tester, then. I wonder if all 300Tdi's had them? I wonder if LR were a little bit more particular over the Disco production than trattors? Mine has passed twice with it missing ;)

He is very thorough, and very fair - and I have a great amount of respect for him. From what I have seen, it does seem to be a lottery as to whether the proper info is available to them - and which valve was actually fitted... the (EDC) auto D1's have a vacuum operated valve, but the manwels have an electrically operated one .... IIRC, they had to change the "new" MOT regs to resolve issues with MIL lights in "older" cars so that they are now ignored on pre 2001 ... and I have a feeling that they might have to do something similar with the EGR regs, as no one seems to know for definite .....

I also learnt that I am right to steer clear of modern stuff - there was a Merc estate in for engine work ... and several boxes of genuine bits turned up :eek: .... plus a 57 reg toymota yaris that was getting scrapped due an electrical fault :( o_O - it was pristine to look at :rolleyes: - the older lady owner was gutted :(.

NOT environmentally friendly at all IMHO.
