looking at blanking me egr valve . but thought that if the unburn crap not goin back thru engine does it go thru exhaust an block the cat up quicker thanks

Better in the cat than in the engine any day, engines are not supposed to be burning exhaust, let the cat deal with it.

So after a few beer's someone says - block off yer EGR valve,it'll go like f---.
Trouble is it wont make any difference, unless it didnt work properly in the first place.Get something on 2 wheels made in Japan if you want to be first to the speed camera away from the lights.

reason i was thinkin about it is its a new engine .an i dont wanna block it up with crap n resctrict it from breathin

When the engine is working hard this valve will dump exhaust gas into the system, now tell me that this won't effect the running of the engine compared to pure fresh air.

I have fitted these to a few landrovers recently, Td5's, 300's etc... in the 110 Td5 for example when pulling a 3 or 4 ton trailer it was certainly making a difference, or hauling itself up a steep incline, it was working wonders, on the motorway; going faster than before, and doing speeds it did before with the accelerator only 1/3 down...

I personaly like the EGR being blanked off because when working hard it makes a huge difference, speed may not factor into a lot of peoples thinking, quite frankly the TD5 Discovery wouldn't pull skin of a rice pudding, it might think about it with the EGR blanked.

Have you ever watched correct EGR operation via testbook or a scope ? I dont think so,cos if you had you would not have made your previous comments.May all your rain be acid.

I will standby what I say... I don't care what the data/tesbook/science says, its a fact that a plated EGR will increase performance.

Answer me this, how can exhaust gas into an engine, be benificial?

Its there to reduce emissions, its the goverment trying to be green, but it does not benifit the engine at all.

What a load of crap,is that what you really think ? By the way it has now been confirmed that the world is round, keep up and take yer blinkers off.Someone turned off your spell check too.:D

At the end of the day hokus it's up to you if you want to blank it off or not there has been plenty of talk on the forum positive and negitive just read it all :)

You automatically find people loose a debate when they have to turn to personal insult.

What more evidence do you need than the fact a landrover WILL work better with this blocked?

Nitrous oxides form when the combustion chamber reaches over 2500 deg F, so to help stop these pollutants they reduce the the temperature with an inert gas, so closest thing available; they throw in some exhaust to keep the temperature down... Hence an EGR valve, essentially a government plan.

From the quality of your argument you could possibly consider giving up your Landrover and driving a Rav4.

And I had given up on you ! Finally you read the book,I presume you read all the chapter ? Like I said earlier if you were to take the time to study how EGR works in practice you would realise that the valve is firmly shut when you stick yer foot down, dont believe me ? - stick a vacuum gauge onto the actuators pipe and you will see what I mean.
So if the valve is shut under wide throttle openings/high load how can blanking it off make any difference to hill climbing/acceleration etc ? In practice the valve is opened on light throttle/overun situations where power output is largely irrelevent.
In the original Td5 release notes they reckoned that the EGR system can reduce Nox emmissions by up to 80%,I tend not to believe everthing I read. If,in practice it was capable of a 40% reduction then it has to be worth having.
By the way, governments only set emission limits, they dont force manufacturers to use EGR - the fact that they all do indicates to me that it is the best way to achieve low Nox levels.Do you remember the fuss that was made about the early td5 emissions being so good they didnt need exhaust partical filters to achieve the emission limits of the day.
As for the personal insult bit,if that is how you interpret it - fine, all I was trying to do is get you to understand how it works - looks like you do now.

Book, there was no book involved, I didn't read "the book"... Looks like you had a good copy and paste session from a webpage though!

Are you still going to tell me the EGR makes NO difference to an engines running?

The blanking will make a difference, and it is noticeable, for example, as mentioned before; the vehicle will sit at higher speeds with the accelerator sitting at say only a 1/3 down which originally would have needed much further travel... The difference is black and white.

The EGR is there for the purpose of emission reduction, that’s fair enough, but this device does impair the engine during certain operating periods.

Presumably you assume all driving is done with the accelerator floored?

P.S. Someone turned YOUR spell checker off!

Here Goes !!!!!!!

In my opinion ~ A blanked off EGR makes a hell of a differance !!!!!!

Drove my dad's Td5 last week and he had just fitted a blanking kit from scorpion racing.

IT WENT LIKE STINK !!!!!!

2/3 accelerator instead of FULL from a standing hill climb and better mid range on the motorway !!!!!

I say blank the thing off !!!!!!:D

There are two types of people; people who go by "the book", the theorists, and then there are the people who actually get into the real world and do things, the practical people.

It is amazing the difference.

sorry didnt mean to start a arguement .but will blank off within the nx week or 2 .got atrip to london soon so be skint after payin this poxy 25 quid thanks ne way all

Sorry to take so long to respond, been on holiday - south of France.Did notice that all the little 2stroke 50's/125's that the teenagers thrash around on now are fitted with Egr.
Funny thing is my research is from practical experience from 20 odd years of earning a living from fixing Landrover products, lots of reading of documents from Lucas,Bosch,Stanadyne,CAV and the SAE group.(Society of Automotive Engineers) I subscribe to various automotive publications - I prefer paper stuff from people like Bosch rather than trawling through loads of crap of the net.
On a daily basis I use testbook on all modern products from Land Rover including lots of roadtesting for diagnosing driveability faults - so I am very aware of how each vehicle should perform.Even down to timed acceleration runs if need be.Yes EGR obviously has an effect on an engine's running, all I am saying is that if it is functioning properly you should not notice any difference to performance at all.Simple fact is alot of them dont work properly.
I dont intend a slanging match, all I am trying to do is to make people realise that some modern emissions kit is worth having - I wonder what is fitted to the new F/Lander diesel ? The power output figures sound good and it will obviously need to pass some strict emissions tests.

Very quick one coz I am not going to be drawn into this cat fight:p

New recon engine with new EGR valve, low power (aircon switch was like a soft brake!) Decided to spend the £1.50 for a plate and try.....

Faster........much:cool:

Mine will stay blocked off so there;)

why have an intercooler to ensure cold air goes into engine. Then divert hot exhaust gas into the flow.Hm does,nt take a lot to work that out does it.

well its been blanked now and im happy with result intercooler cleaned out as well .think next cat mite come off thanks all any way
