Hi all

I have had a look at my air inlet manifold this morning and like in mings sticky thread mine is the same and very caked up with grime and grease so i chickened out and put it all back together and come back on here to research.

I have looked on ebay and would like to know what the diferance is between a blanking mod and a bypass mod ?

will both these mods stop the oil build up happening again and is there and way off cleaning the ports ontop off the engine when i take the plunge and clean the gunge !!

Both kits will stop the future buildup from the Exhaust gasses but IMO the bypass is best as it totally gets rid of the valve part which can restrict air flow in to the engine so the bypass allows air to enter more easily and therefore you get a slight power improvement. :D

Thanks guys but just to confirm this is the bypass option where you reconnect the vacuum pipe and not just seal it off ?
 
no bypass is you remove the egr and fit a bypass kit and that blocks of the vacum as well if you get the right one
 
all i did was take off the egr valve, clean it up, pop it back on then blanked off the vac pipe at the t connection using daz's peg n pipe kit. was alot perkier and to be honest i can't see the point of the replacement, of course there is no valve pin in the blanking kit buy hey, we're talking 120 bhp diesel here, not 300 bhp highly tuned petrol, so i'd tell ya to do what i did and put the 50 quid in the bank towards your vcu replacement lol :p

You can buy a similar bypass off ebay for £30 incl p&p which does not include the new bolts and hose clip and save about £20, existing bolts,seal and hose clip can usually be reused. Make sure (as previous post) that you wear protective gloves or you'll never get your hands clean (sand and swarfega helps).

This mine and yes I know there is supposed to be a hose attached - photo taken as I was fitting.

Bypass ordered and set for the weekend. Do you clean the ports on top of the engine and if so how? Or do you just clean the manifold? cheers guys ;)
