Hi all
Wonder if anyone can help. Following advice from here I'm about to remove the EGR valve unit on my 96 300tdi (Japanese import). I'm not mechanically minded and have never done this sort of thing so I printed out the step by step pictures of the EGR removal process.
The problem is, on mine there is an extra bit between the valve and the top inlet hose that is not there in these pics. The part is cylindrical with what appears to be a water hose branching from the bottom rad hose and another coming out from the other side.
Excuse my ignorance but what is this and can I still remove the egr. My thoughts were to blank above this part and leave the unit carrying the water hoses where it is. Help !!

I have just bought a blanking plate (oval shape) for my 300tdi that stops the EGR working without having to completely remove it.
