Hello to all,
I am a new member to this forum, and have a question for the Series vehicle owners !.

This weekend, I am replacing the driver side door top. I have had a basic look, at the two bolts securing it . The current door top, is slowly rusting away !.

When the bolts have been removed, in theory the top of the door should slide off, is there anything else which may hamper this, any seals etc.

All advice appreciated

Ed, wellcome. I did this last year - one of the bolts was corroded tight into the tube spacer inside the lower door section and I ended up having to cut it off with a hacksaw blade slid between the top and bottom sections. Needed to knock out the knackered tube and weld a new bit of tube in. (Found a bit in local DIY shop). New seal required between sections. Hope yours is easier!
 
It should just pop out if you are lucky.
I would recommend that you carefully remove the ally trim from the old door and get new window channel (£6 from Padds I think).
Don't bother with self tapping screws, use pot rivets instead.
I used window glaze putty from B+Q and don't forget to paint the door top first.
Its a quick and easy job if you have all the bits.
 
if u have any problems with the "lock" when fitting it file the hole under the channeling a bit ive dont that on both the door tops ive replaced and it saves ya a hell of a lot of time n effort. but ya shouldnt have too many problems if i can do it then im sure u can
 
Hi,

If you are replacing the channeling in the door, for the window, the SIII club do a plastic one that doesn't rust away in the rain gully. ;) Refitting the window and channels is a fiddly job, give yourself plenty of time. Self tappers in tight horrible places holding the windows in. DumDum is the business for sealing it all up too, SIII club keep that too! ;)
