Bring yer wellies it's probably full of water - and i didnt say you can't get a decent TD for that money now did i .......

Yes but's that LRO and just because someone's asking that price doesn't mean it'll sell for that amount. or even that it'll sell at all.

£1395 may well be the price, as i said previously we have differing ideas of what is a decent motor, just because it may well drive and have have wheels but i'd bet it'll be dog eared and messed with, that's not the sort of motor i'd recomend a potential new landy owner to buy, which is after all what the orginal poster was asking about - buy cheap buy twice.

thems is me last words of the topic

Ahhh ok, lots of differing opinions as to whether I'm gonna be able to get what I want.

In response to the suggestion of getting a disco - without sounding rude, I ****ing hate them. I think they're ugly and poncey. So that's outta the question.

As for getting a 90 instead of a 110 - I know it's something I may have to accept but my preference really is for a 110. I spend quite a lot of time out in Wales etc and my plan is to convert the back of the 110 so that it can be interchangable between bench seating and a bed.

Hmm, this is making me sound picky - I just know what I want and I'm pretty stubborn about things :D

110's tend to be a it cheaper than 90's anyway unless you go for the County station wagon (CSW) Don't dismiss disco's too quickly having owned an 1984 110 and a disco I can honestly saythey are just as good off road as a defender. and a hell of a lot more civilised and you can sleep in the back if you want to. Though the 110's are easier to convert to a camper/expedition vehicle. Try and get some one who already owns one to let you have a drive in it and go the same for a 110 then see how you feel about them. Also whatever you buy try to get Power Steering. a 110 is a bugger to steer at low speed without it.

So far I've driven a 101, 110, 90, series 3 and a disco. I'm not overly bothered about comfort, I can rough it.

And yeh, power steering is obviously preferable too as I'm only small!! I'm just worried I wont be able to reach the pedals :D

As I said, I just don't like the look of the discos, plus I want something I can put a soft top on in the summer. :)

Sounds like you know what you want! If you want to convert the back then there's no need to pay the premium for a CSW so that'll take a bit off of the cost, but you may be looking at commercials which have in general had a harder life.

Yes, you can get a good straight 110 or a Td but they are a bit sluggish. If you can find a 200Tdi it is a significantly better motor & they all had PAS. If you could find one with a tilt already fitted you could probably save more money as it would probably be easier and cheaper to buy a hard top to fit than source and buy a good tilt.

Don't be too put off if the canvas is scruffy, it's the hoops that are tricky to find and can be expensive.

Don't be afraid to get unnerneath with a big screwdriver and small hammer and have a really good poke around at all of the chassis. If it's good, you will not be able to stick the screwdriver through ANY of it! Tap it all over with a hammer. A ringing noise will show it's good, a dull thud will indicate that it's probably rusting away from the inside out!

Like I said, don't be afraid to walk away from anything that looks suspect & happy hunting............Then you can come laning with us, with yer fella and we can watch his inferior veekal get mashed up, scratched up then break! ;)

Shows you've got very good taste - best advise i ever had about buying motors was to make sure you dont have the money with you so you don't get tempted to do the deal there and then - if they let ya take pictures of the underneath and the bulkhead to elp remember cost after seeing a few they will all blend together in your head.

180139038264 ebay item would make a good camper .. well apart from the ton of generator still in the back.

I've got a tilt & sticks for a 110/defender for sale mega cheap.

Bleedin' ell Sirus, it looks like a shed! Redhandshandy'll prob' have it tho'! Just the thing fer a quick offroad getaway after them dodgy tarmaccing jobs. ;)

It's also a series motor with a defender front on it... unless it's a stage 1 that's been chopped about ;)

At least you wont have to worry about fitting an extra battery, comes complete with built in genny.
