Hey,

I'm just about to buy my first land rover, after around 10 years of passionately dreaming and obsessing about them.

I'm looking to buy a Landy 110 Defender (diesel), and was wondering if anyone would be willing to give me a guide as to how much running costs are likely to be. I am aware they will obviously vary but am just looking for a guide.

I'm only on a lowly student nurse wage at the moment so hardly rolling it it, but will do all I can to make my dream possible!! :p

What kind of age are you looking at? An old 110, a newer 200 or 300 Tdi? Doosuls are fairly frugal, by big lumbering lump standards & it depends what you're using it for & how you drive it.

Getting the best you can afford is more important so's you aren't adding the cost of too many repairs into the running cost equation.

Ere', where in Surrey are you? When you've got it you should come out laning, fording & generally being stoopid with the TOSSERs..........Have a look in the green laning section.

Dunt mention the student nurse thing agin tho', see, we've got Grunt and Daft............er, and several others on here that just ain't right..........but Grunts' Hattie Jacques fixation is probably the worst of it!

A cheaper option might be to look for a boyfriend who allready owns one?

In order to remain fully PC the use of the word "boyfriend" could also be replaced with "girlfriend".

Just noticed, yer a sykeeatric nurse...........You'll be alright on here, bit of a busman's ollyday mind.

Welcome to LoonyZone Miss Tyke.

We used to have a Sunday Legal Surgery - you could start a Sunday Psychiatric Surgery - you'd get lots of customers on here.
After all, anyone who runs an old Deepender, or even worse a petrol Gaylander or a Rangie, needs their head examined!

I dunno exactly what engine model to get at the moment, this is the sort of thing I am looking for a bit of advice on. Obviously my preference is a newer Landy, with power steering for my pansy arms, but this again is all down to funds.

At the moment, I drive like a ****. Hah. I'm trying to kill my Clio :D

Currently I am in Surbiton for the next 2 months, but am usually based in Camberley. So yes, definitely, I'd love to come green laning with you all.

Haha, suggestion duly noted. :D

student nurse you say , welcome to the forum, any advice you might need, just ask ;)

Hah, thanx. And if you ever go mad, I'll happily return the advice favour.

**** that, I'm an independant woman and I want my own Landy, it's been my dream for years. Besides, my bloke owns a hilux surf, far too pimped. I wanna bit of rough for my transport.

I thought the use of the words "hilux surf" had been banned here?

Just out of curiosity what's your budget ?

Haha, it wasn't my choice, and you obviously can't account for others tastes. I'm a Landy girl through and through.

And unfortunately my budget is currently a mere 3k ish. Am I setting myself up for a fall?

3K should get you a good 200 Tdi, spesh' a 110 cos they don't command the premium a 90 does.

Chassis & bulkhead condition are almost everything. Look at as many as you can & be prepared to walk away from a lot of them.

Try to get a CSW, spesh the 110's have probably had an easier life.

Ahh cool. It's gonna be hard, but I am prepared to take my time and find the right one...after all, I've been waiting years and years already, a few months wont make a difference. :)

as marcus said, you should get a nice 110 200 fer 3k. but di=ont make the mistake of buyin the first one you look at

If you can get a good 110 200 Tdi for 3K i'll take as many as you can find off yer hands - every one i've seen for that sort of money are tired old things coated in checker plate and suffering from the attentions of a member of the red caliper squad (armed only with an pair of mole grips)

3K will get a nice TD if you wait for the right one with plenty of history.

ebay is your friend

Bollocks. there are plenty of 200tdi's going for £2.5k £3k in decent condition. Miss Tyke If you don't find a 110 you might want to consider a disco. Just as good offroad as a 90/110 and a lot more comfortable to drive on road.

And Ebay is full of morons selling overpriced 200tdi's that aren't worth half the money the morons are asking for. Stay well clear unless you know what your doing and have a good look at it before you bid for it.

Ahem did someone mention me? Did someone mention Hattie Jaques? Did someone mention nurses? Who had the tissues last?

Why do yer want a 110, If you go for a 2.5 turbo 110 the engines more likely to be knackered an unless your carrying long fishing rods that don't collapse into small lengths then a 90 is as good as owt, an they look betterer.

Do a search theers some good info on here about buying a used 90. I tidied it all up a bit back but knowing the messy degenerates on here theres no knowing where the freds could have got to now. Probly in the cutlery drawer with the tissues.

We obvioulsy have a differing concept as to what "decent" means.
