My wife and I have run a charity since 1997 working in Africa Uganda and Malawi mostly and I have always fancied driving from the UK (Edinburgh) to Uganda.

Anyone think this is doable these days in a small convoy, and anyone know if anyone would fund it as part of an HIV / AIDS awareness project?

Just asking or is it a stupid idea? (not my first):(

it seems a worthwhile cause, you never know there might be people on here who are into this sort of journey who might join your group.:)

Yep Nathan lots of information on HIV / AIDS but lots of children and parents dying from HIV and it's complications.

I lived in Uganda for 8 years one year in Sudan and 2 years in Malawi driving to Uganda from Edinburgh does not worry me only finding sponsors and a suitable friendly enthusiatic team to take with us. We need maybe 4 Defender 110's that can then be converted in Uganda into mobile health clinics.

Anyone interested? :D

Perhaps this needs to be moved to a more relevant section?

Good luck with your project...if you need a driver/passenger....! :)

Please Mods move this to the correct section sorry about that if anyone is serious about wanting to get involved in organising such a thing pleas email me at info@acep.org.uk or have a little look at our soon to be revamped website The Dignity Project

BTW I drive a Land Rover Discovery "R" GS desiel at present and in Africa we had a Nissan d/cabin hardbody.

might be worth moving it to the Expedition section.

Yes it is more than possible. If you need a driver/navigator for the journey let me know. Good luck with the sponsors.

Firecat, I started reading your website, and it sounds interesting, but after a few lines I had to stop reading; the close, bold white-on-black typeface is really unfriendly on the eyes, might I suggest using black on white? :)

Yeah, when I was in Kenya, I thought how great it would be to do the trip in my Landy, and do more for the provision of healthcare and education; it's still a plan for when I win the lottery!!:D

me and the family went to kenya, bloody lovely place but i would only go out in the bush with a guide though, got chased by a feckin big efalump when it was at a watering hole and we got a bit too close.a change of unders was in order i can tell you.:eek:
