Hi,Can anybody out there tell me if i can fit a used ECU to my Freelander TD4from 2005, the one i`ve got a hold of is from 2004.I know that its got to beremapped, but what happens to the immobiliser and so on??Grateful for any answers.Regards Peter

I was led to believe that they cant be swapped car to car, as they are coded to the chassis number...

Dont know if someone with a T4 system would be able to recode a 2nd hand ECU to your car though...

You cant swap the engine ecu car to car on a TD4 as its coded to chassis/immobilisation system. Whether anybody can decode them I dont no (T4 cant decode them though so you would need some sort of specialist)

Yes you can fit a S/H engine ecu to a TD4,but you need the immobilisation ecu that came from the same car.(Or a new one)
The engine ecu gets paired with the immob one for "life" Testbook will moan a bit about a vin mismatch but you can ignore that.

Hi,Thanks for the info, can you tell me where i can find the immobilisation ECU ?The reason for all this is a hot starting problem which is about 5 months old.All kinds of things have been renued, started with simple camshaft sensor andwent right through it all to new injectors ! This is more or less all thats left.I seem to have a thermal problem in the ECU,i checked this after running thecar to its normal temp. Then opening the box where the ecu sits, sliding oneof those ice box coolaccu`s down the side of the ecu, closing the lid andwaited acouple of minutes........................It started!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Apart from all this though i do not have any failure codes read out of th ecu ?Might interest somebody. Thanks RegardsPeter

That is an unusual fault, normally its the cam position sensor. If you can find an ecu and immob ecu together from the same car it has to be worth a try.Just be careful if you get one from a breaker as they dont realise what you are on about.
The immob ecu is behind the radio in the dash,to the rh side of the middle from memory.
