Hi
I am very new here. I posted this yesterday and had some good replies but it was suggested I post this in TD5. I have juts intruduced myself so lets get strated.

Does anyone know if this older Defender will work with this later type ECU

this was my post from yesterday.

Good Morning,

This is my first post so please be patient.
Here is the problem so far.
I have a Defender 1999 TD5 Heritage Edition. It was on my drive ticking over a couple of weeks ago and all of a sudden just stopped. About a year ago I replaced the fuel pressure regulator along with the wiring harness to the injectots.
Convinced there was air getting into the fuel system (i now know this to be wrong) I replaced the copper washers and O rings on the injectors. still no joy and then I replaced the fuel pump (not a nice job) and still no joy. I then gave up and called the AA. They sent out an independant garage. The fault reader threw up `Top side switch failed pre injector`. The chap told me it was the ECU had failed.
I then got in toch with a main dealer. I gave him the reg number and he sent me a brand new ECU but as far as I can make out it is a NNN type and my old one is a MSB type. The independant came out and input the new injector codes but nothing. It would not start. They have since recovered it back to their yard. They tell me they have reset everytyhing but they still can not get it to start. They say they can not get any power to the accelerator.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Jon.

Hi Jon

No it won't start. It fires once when you turn it over but won't catch. It is in the garage that recovered it at the moment. They are waiting for their PC to be fixed that has their Landrover software on it .

Thanks for your help

Jonathon

the new ECU must be sync'd with the immobiliser... a generic tester can't do that for Td5 a dedicated tester is required...
If the ECM receives no security code or the ECM receives the incorrect
security code, then the ECM allows the engine to run for 0.5 seconds only. During this operation all other ECM
functions remain as normal.
The ECM operates immobilisation in three states:
l 'New.'
l 'Secure'.
l 'No Code'.
When an ECM is unconfigured it will operate in the 'New' state. When an unconfigured ECM is installed the engine
can be started and operated once only, then the ECM has to be re-configured to either 'secure' or 'no code'
configuration depending on whether a security system is fitted to the vehicle. This is achieved by using TestBook.
With the ECM in a 'Secure' state, it will not function unless an alarm system is fitted to the vehicle. A 'Secure' ECM
cannot be configured into a 'No Code' ECM.
With the ECM in a 'No Code' state, it does not require an alarm system to be fitted to allow the engine to operate. If
the ECM senses that an alarm system is fitted it will not start. A 'No Code' ECM can be configured to a 'Secure' ECM
using TestBook. A 'Secure' ECM can not be configured to a 'No Code' state.
Setting up of the ECM immobilisation configurations can only be performed using TestBook.
If a vehicle stalls immediately after starting it is possible that it has been immobilised. This means either:
l The ECM was configured as 'No Code' but the ECM is receiving a code at its alarm input pin.
l The ECM received an incorrect code.
l The ECM was expecting a security code but did not receive one at its alarm input pin.

NNN type ECU must work instead of the MSB as long as it's the proper one... here you have the list in chronological order tell me which one was previously on an which NNN is on now
