I have an awful head unit in my 90, it truly is the worst piece of crap I've ever bought.

I need a new one and thought it would be good to combine the whole iPod, hands free, radio thing and get something that does it all. Question is; do the flip out ones on eBay do the job or are they the rubbish that they appear to be?

How much radio d'you listen to? I wouldn't say that I'm a DAB convert yet, but I use it a lot where I can.

Since we were supposed to be digital only in 2012, its surprisingly hard to find DAB compatible car audio. I can only blame the idiots that set the UK standard as to be different from the rest of Europe.

I bought a Pioneer today, it's pretty good for the money:

It sounds way better than my old head unit and the hands free works spot on.

I have DAB radio in my MINI and apart from trying it from time to time I just can't be bothered with it, it's ok around a city but anywhere slightly remote and it cuts in an out. I think they made the right decision when they abandoned going all digital

I've got an Xtrons one. Had it for about a year. You get what you pay for. Sound quality wise it's pretty decent and the display is quite good. It's a bit unresponsive though when touching and swiping. Radio reception isn't as good as other head units I've owned and it's a bugger for retuning itself at the slightest drop in signal strength. The bluetooth functionality works well for both telephone and music and also means you get hands free phone use. The Satnav software is excellent because it's third party developed. Being of Chinese origin the user interface can be confusing to navigate as they've obviously not employed anyone who speaks English properly to design it. It's taken me a while to get used to using it but now I find I actually quite like it and they're not nearly as "cheap and nasty" as you think. One thing to watch out for is the wiring. The red and orange wires on the main connector are the wrong way around on a lot of them. Mine were so I had to wire it up the "wrong" way after blowing a couple of fuses before I realised what was wrong. It also meant swapping the fuses around on the red and orange wires as they are rated quite differently.

I just checked out your links. The prices have certainly come down a lot since I bought mine! Think mine was about £160 when I got it. For the money they're going for now they're definitely worth it.
