Might make you smile. I had an EAS fault after overloading a trailer which has had a string of repurcussions that shouldn't happen to any man or beast. First thing was I couldn't find Datateks cable that I purchased a few years ago so I bought another one on Ebay - didn't work. Contacted Datatek but he must have been busy as he didn't reply. Finally found the original cable, my son had borrowed it thinking he could use it to transfer data. First 3 weeks gone. Hooked it up, no faults. Could reset the system but it wouldn't lift any of the corners. Compressor wasn't running. Took it off, and tried to hard wire it - fried the thermal link. Found out that after reading Wammers 'How to'. Bought a new thermal link, jesus those things are small, I could barely see it, let alone fit it. Took the easy way out and shorted the link wire to earth. Success! Compressor ran, but still wouldn't lift any corners.
Replaced all the air bags. Wouldn't lift a corner, but I managed to unseal the bladders on 3 of the replacement bags whilst going for a premature test drive. Still wouldn't lift a corner after I had reassembled the bags. Whilst I was checking the compressor - finger over the inlet - the fecking thing ground to a halt and seized. Obviously I had over heated it and the lack of a thermal link really slapped my arse.
Chapter 2
Bought a Britpart compressor. Fitted it. Wouldn't lift a corner. Using Wammers guide I ascertained I had a diaphragm problem. Bought a diaphragm (Ebay again. Not cheap to post to NZ) Wouldn't lift a corner. Stripped the block again and changed all the 'o' rings. Different result - lifted the front bags right to the top. Flashing lights like a demented disco. Checked the pipework. I'd crossed the two front pipes - black and red. Changed them over, the back lifted but not the front. Right to the top, aaaargrrrgh
At this stage I was really considering scrapping it.
Left it for a week. Thought about it. Then Ureka! I must have crossed some of the coils. Stripped the block down and yes, the bottom two coils were in the wrong place.
Anyone want a thermal link? As new never fitted.
