Compressor do get very hot when they are working, depends when you check it.
If it is running constantly, the you have a leak somewhere, you need to do the soapy water spray test. Does it drop down overnight?
hazlington - my compressor was running almost constantly , got hot then thermal cutout switch kicked in - EAS fault.
Got a new EAS seal and opened the compressor - seal was torn so hardly pumping anything - hence compressor getting hot. Changed the seal - OK now.
Or as datatek suggests you may have a leak somewhere - that would make the compressor work overtime.

Thanks guys, does not drop down overnight, pump seems to be running almost all the time, will have a look at the seal. Still new to this, this is my first Range Rover, so far I am impressed.
