Thanks for all your help and advice, I think that I am getting to grips with it now. Found your tech advice page and followed what it tells me. I did the compressor checks and it is weaker than a pump for pumping up a child's air bed. Hold it about and inch from my face and all I can feel is a gentle breeze, no problem holding my finger over the outlet. When I disconnected the blue pipe there was no air to escape.

So it's a new compressor then? I see that it has been rebuilt once already so I feel that maybe it wouldn't be wise to do it again.

Depends. Reckon he it can take 2 or 3 refurbs as long as it isn't vibrating madly or making nasty noises. You need the teflon seal and cylinder kit. Otherwise have a word with @kurtjohnson10 and see if he has one kicking about he can let go.

Thanks for that. It was running very smoothly and no noises just wheezing. I would prefer to replace it, even new rather than pre-used, you just never know with second hand items of any sort. I shall have to do some research and some thinking.

That kit that datatec supplies is always useful for future problems and you will probably need it in the future

You need the software to clear the "35mph" message. Otherwise you could have a perfectly good system but it wont work. The 35mph message switches everything off until reset

Win 7 is fine, doesn't matter how old the laptop is, best if it has a serial port, if not a USB to serial adaptor will be needed.
A 2 metre EAS cable for the P38 allowing you to work outside the car, necessary when calibrating the heights, together with a CD containing the EAS software, EAS PDF, my Airbag Replacement Guide and a copy of RAVE covering P38, Defender and early L322 is £13.50 plus £6.00 P&P total £19.50 if you pay by cheque, or £21.00 if you want to use Paypal.
Cheques to:- K Howlett, Le Moulin de la Chauvaliere, 86190 Latille, France.
For Paypal it's:- datatek@wanadoo.fr
It needs a Windows laptop and if the laptop does not have a serial port you will also need to buy a USB to RS232 serial adaptor, these can be found for £10 or less on Ebay. Make sure you get one with a full RS232 implementation and the correct drivers for your version of Windows and load the correct driver BEFORE you plug in the adaptor.
The software reads and clears all EAS faults, allows you to send the car to all the different heights for calibration, see the actual height sensor readings, force the compressor to operate and de pressurise all circuits.
I normally post next working day after payment is received and it usually takes 3 to 5 days for delivery.
I would like to get one from you, what do I need to do for you to send me one?

Pay me, either by PayPal to datatek@wanadoo.fr or UK sterling cheque posted to me. I f you want to pay by cheque, let me know and I will send you a PM with details.
Don't forget, you need a windows laptop to run the software, and if the laptop does not have a serial data port, you will need a USB to RS232 serial adaptor costing about £10.
This is ONLY for the P38 EAS.
