Hi folks. I have a 98 P38 2.5 DSE and I had been reading about people’s problems with their lights on the dash for the EAS ride heights taking a long time to settle in cold weather. I noticed that for me it usually took 10 minutes for the single light to settle with the cold weather. The advice invariably given was related to problems with the o-rings in the compressor pump. Now I must say that I am a complete numpty when it comes to vehicle maintenance and have to rely on my independent garage, (not a range rover specialist), that deals with all the family’s cars. He advised me to replace the compressor rather than just the inside parts. I therefore bought a brand new compressor from Island 4X4. (My mechanic has replaced all the air bags in the last 6 months).
He has had the P38 for a couple of days but he has been unable to replace the compressor. He told me that when he plugged into the EAS computer it would not register and therefore he could not let the air out to remove the old compressor.
I now have the vehicle back home together with a new compressor still in its box. RR is driving fine. With the slightly warmer weather it does not take very long for the lights to settle. I don’t have any faults showing up.
Has anybody any idea what he is talking about and how I can go about fixing the problem, I don’t want to go to a Land Rover dealer and be ripped off.

may be different with yours but on my 2001 dhse the compressor was replaced without having to depressurise the system i watched him do it took him 5 mins tops and we were chatting throughout the process, i too had no faults showing but had replaced rear bags

No I haven't got a clue as to what he is talking about !!!!

There is no need to 'plug-in' to the suspension system or to depressurise to change the compressor.

Open the box, unscrew the little nuts that hold the compressor down, unplug the electrics and unscrew the nut at the start of the blue airline (underneath the compressor). Offer up the new compressor and reverse what I said above.

Then, get yourself a new mechanic, one who either knows what he's talking about or isn't going to rip you off after he's baffled you with bull****.

hay if a girl can do it! (me:D)
remove the black cover with a screw driver to push back the tabs.
get new one out the box....
unplug contector.....then undo the 3 nuts holding compressor in place.
gently lift and undo the blue pipe thats connected to the pump. then put everything back together in reverse....easy!
i have never had to let the air out. the only thing is if it's got a eas fault then they need to be cleared for the pump to work.

Second the above.
Even if you don``t intend doing it yourself, look at "rswsolutions" site. All you need to know about EAS explained on Video!

completely agree!! sound like he's making the job harder than it is for money.

Thanks folks for the advice, I have looked at RSW solutions and he makes it look sooooo simple. Once again thanks for the advice

It takes less than 10 minutes to change compressor no need to evacuate system.

Also if you are having no problems wait until you are as they say if it aint broke etc and then do it yourself you will cope no probs

Obviously the bloke who is doing it is a sewing machine mechanic.:D:D:D

Good Afternoon Guys,
My 2.5DSE had a puncture on the n.s.f tyre. The spare was also a no go. So the car remained stationary for a week, during which time the uspension went down to the stops. I had a new wheel tyre put on, but upon starting, all EAS dash lights came on & obviously, the suspension did not rise. I took it bumpily to my nearest RR Bandit, he plugged in the diagnostic but it read No Faults. He charged me £41.00 and said he has no idea what it could be, 'Maybe a leak, a pump'? He wants unlimited funds B4 investigating further (I do not have said funds) He also runs a policy, whereas, if they do work, you pay the bill in full (Regardless of how ludicrous) Before you can take your car back!!!
So, has anybody got any ideas what has caused this & how to fix it. The pump doesn't seem to try and inflate from start up!!!

I'm sure that I've read this somewhere before - quite recently!

Could be the garage is witholding the fault info to extract money from you.

You can read and clear the faults yourself with the RSW solutions software if you have a laptop.
The compressor will not run if there is a hard fault. If there is the "EAS fault 35mph max" message on the dash display then he should have recorded a fault and been able to attempt to clear it.
