Recently purchased a Series 2a steering wheel from that well known auction site but turns out it is for the late model and not my early model which requires a threaded bolt clamp not lock nut. Does anybody have this type of wheel for sale or know of a work around to fit that later wheel to an early column. Thanks

The early steering wheels (up to about 1968) were the same type as the series one. (Possibly the very very early series one ones are different again!) This makes them very expensive. Currently "buy it now" at about 400 quid for a used cracked one with sticky edges...

If you still have your old one you can get the Bakerlite rim repaired by a company called Charles Ware ltd for a slightly less price. This is only really worth considering if the centre and spokes are still in good condition / can be restored too. If the metal rim inside the wheel is done for then you'd need to get that repaired before getting the other geezers to put it in their plastic forming mold.

In your situation if you're not worried about originality the cheapest option is probably to replace the steering column with a later series 3 version that will fit the new steering wheel you've just bought. (Bit of a shame to have to do that)

Your older series 2a steering column is worth more than the series 3 column so with a bit of jiggery pokery you might be able to get your money back for the series 3 column
