hello

can anyone tell me if an early 99 freelander engine will fit into a 2002 reg???

my mates just blew his up and we have an early 1.8 sitting around

cheers

You still wheeling dealing dodgy motors Bandit? lol

Yes and No, it will fit but slightly different wiring harness and different MEMS control units. so you'll be faffing about!
Additional cam sensor on later engines (different cam cover!!) plus coil packs (dizzy cap and coil on the early type).
They have different size timing belts and different manual/ auto timing belt tensioners so because of this, it's not just a matter of whipping off the head

Yes it will fit but you will need to swap some bits over as the early engine uses a dizzy cap for sending the HT to the correct plugs. The later engine is running DIS and so is fitted with 2 coils and a cam position sensor as well as some other changes.

If your mates is a 2002 model then you have all the parts you need to make it work. Just change the inlet camshafts over and the camshaft cover as the early ones dont have the hole for the camshaft sensor the early head should have the bolt holes in it to take the overplug coil set up. I did this to a mates a while ago with no problems.

cheers guys
he has now picked up a replacement engine from a bloke who breaks them in birmingham

cheers again
