As far as I know, the ethanol production process uses produces more CO2, than its use in the fuel saves, so it's all BS anyway.
 
News said that plant based ethanol reduced the total carbon for the whole energy creation/use cycle due to the plants growing and absorbing carbon. Plant ethanol is less energy intensive to manufacture than making petrol. The ethanol element of the new E10 fuel burns cleaner anorl. There must be a benefit to using it or they wouldn't have made the change.

I had a fill at the weekend of E10 for one of my bikes because I needed fuel and thats all they had, the thing ran like a pig until I could dilute it with E5
