Looking at a E reg landy tomorrow and it says it's got PAS did this year come with PAS and the 2.5td engine.

I'm not going to ask what to look out for as I've already searched and found the answer out just thats the only ones I was unsure about.

Also I read that a puff of black smoke is ok until engine warmed up from initial start up?

PAS wasn't standard until 1990s I believe, but many earlier ones have been retrofitted with it.

The black smoke upon start up is common and nothing to worry about as long as it's not excessive and clears quickly.

Power steering - Yes

Puff of black smoke - normal

I know u say u know, but check the rocker breather and air intake, if the rocker breather is routed to the chassis or open air itll be to stop it blowing oil back into the inlet n smoking, oil in the intake etc price up a replacement 200tdi into the price... straight swap

The engines are awful in 99% of cases and unless lucky and well looked after will self destruct at 150K

Cheers Steve

as above :D

mines on a G and has all that. pipe into chassis the lot. i will be dropping a 200 tdi in at some point even though my 2.5 has only done 68,000 and is strong as an ox its just grim driving them especially when you have driven the 200 tdi and compared

I got a 88 Wi pas deffo swop for a 200 best thing I ever did! And having 300 axles is good too to have discs all round

the add says 4c I'm assuming that means 4 cylinder as my mate said but i thought it had something to do with the gears?

Can't think of anything gear-wise related to '4C' - probably does just refer to 4 cylinders. Gearbox would be an LT77 with an LT230 transfer box 1.410 ratio assuming it's standard.

wooossshhh!!
That just went straight over my head with it opefully going to be my first Landy

Gearbox would be an LT77 with an LT230 transfer box (as it says on the tin)1.410 ratio (means its a defender transfer box as the discovery transfer box is geared higher ). ;)

Two gearboxes were fitted. LT77 or R380

LT77 has reverse selected to the left and up, R380 has reverse right and down

LT230 is a disco transfer
Power stearing started in 1985/6

If you don't know what you are talking about I would suggest you be quiet as you look stupid

Hmm - it helps if you're correct yourself when you try and beat other people down about getting their facts straight.. Lt230 was used in 90s/110s/defenders/discos and range rovers.

Take a load of pics and upload them on here in order to get another opinion. Better still, take someone who knows a bit about landys to look at it with you.

LT77 was fitted to 12J to 200tdi
R380 was fitted to 300tdi and TD5

Just to join in correcting you after u felt the need to wrongly correct others and attempt to belittle them , u will find its the LT77s (with better synchro) not lt77 IN THE 200tdi

(Pedantic ... yes but u did need correcting as it was stupid :))

Cheers Steve

You really aren't doing well are you

... nobody said they didnt, please reread my post which clearly says they used the LT77S in the 200TDI and then feel free to point out where I said anything about the TD???

Not only do you feel the need to wrongly insult posters as has been pointed out, you seem incapable comprehending plain English

And Wrong again??? wasn't aware of the first instance so how I can manage a further 'wrong' is beyond me...

Please quit whilst your behind and as has been said feel free to apologise for your earlier wrongly directed insult and errors

Cheers Steve
