Gents & Ladies,

Please can you give me a bit of advice as to where I could find any vehicle identification marks on my Series III diesel 88" (1973) apart from the Data Plate on the bulkhead . The DVLA person who says there is an discrepancy between dataplate and number plate thinks the chassis number should be on the front right hand spring hanger. As far as I know this was only the case on post-1979 models (Haynes Manual says so) . The place where the DVLA person thinks the engine number to be is also blank. I suspect that on my age vehicle they must have been put somewhere else.

Any help you can give me to avoid a 'super MoT' SVA and a Q plate would be much appreciated.

Can someone post pictures of where there chassis and engine numbers are.

Thanks,

DeepC

P.S Anyone who owns a brown/cream 1973 88" Series III petrol with a missing dataplate, I might have your dataplate!

get yer self a set o punches and drift the oneoff the data plate onto the spring hanger ;)

Steve,

Thanks for the info I'll check tomorrow morning in the light.

Yella Disco,

The chassis number on the dataplate is wrong (i.e the reg and the dataplate chassis number do not tie up on the DVLA database). The dataplate is for a petrol engined 88" (Starts 901) but my correct chassis number (which I know) starts 906.

Incidentally, if anyone in the beds/cambs area has a set of punches that might be my last resort!

Thanks,

DeepC

its the database that is wrong. the doris had the same thing with her vw, think about it, your landy has had the dataplate since it was registered, the database in swansea has been going for 2 years, you do the maths ;)

The database is probably correct. Calvin says my dataplate chassis number is for a Petrol Series III hardtop. Mine is a diesel and always has been. The dataplate has been swapped at some point in the past. The previous owner has the correct 906####### Chassis Number for my vehicle on the buyers receipt for when he bought it from the previous owner. All MoT certificates from 1998 when he bought it state the chassis number as shown on the dodgy dataplate.

The DVLA showed me the orginal registration documents for my dataplate and it certainly wasn't my Land Rover. As I say, Brown/Cream Petrol. Mine was a red diesel.

Steve, is your post talking about the chassis or engine number?

Thanks,

DeepC

The problem chaps, is that the DVLA themselves have checked my vehicle fairly thoroughly and therefore would know that I have doctored the vehicle.

If someone with a Series III diesel could somehow post a photo of the location of the engine number I would be grateful.

Similarly I would like to know exactly where on the front right spring hanger the number should be. A photo would be great.

Thanks,

DeepC

engine number should be stamped on engine block front right you can't miss it .its on a little flat sticky out bit

if the dvla have checked it that thoroughly they would have found the original chassis no, wouldbnt they ????
