Just bought a Durite marine 0-4000 rpm rev counter to put in my 90 :)
Think i know which point on the alternator is the 'w' connector.

Question is: how do you calibrate them so they read accurately??

Guess, there is a plastic screw in the back you turn to adjust the reading, I set mine up on idle at about 750RPM, autodate says 790+/-10

Just thought: could link it to the alternator on my disco and adjust it so that it reads the same as the 1 on the disco dash at different rpm! Then fit it to the 90 "already calibrated" ?

Would that work?

Can't see why not. My disco does 70mph at 2000prm & I set the 90 up the same.
It only idles at 500rpm so it's a bit out.

I'll give it a go when it arrives and will update the post when i've done it.

(think your might be out due to different gearing in the transfer box ;) )

Disco/defender runs different alternator pulleys so would be out, its done on alternator RPM compared to engine RPM....

Ah it'll be the tyres then mate!

I'll calibrate it on the disco and then fit it to the 90, i'll do the calibration in neutral as my 90's fitted with 35" tyres :)

was thinking of buying this Durite 0-4000rpm rev counter, did u fit yours and is it working? the reason i ask i was told i need a rev counter that has dip switches on the rear to calibrate the rpm gauge??

many thanks

Yep fitted and wired up - works a treat mate.
To sort of calibrate it i warmed the engine and set the rev counter at 800rpm at idle - sorted :)

Buy an external tach or ask garage to do a reading and adjust. External ones are only around a tenner
