Morning folks. My1999 disco 2 since purchased has always had a dull knocking noise from the rear end when she rocks side to side. It is definitely a dull sound rather than a metallic knock. Mileage is 170k so bushes of some sort would not surprise me. Any idea what the offending items would be and cost to buy them?

Cheers

Ben

Does it do it when you accelerate and brake? I've got similar on mine atm and it's the a frame ball joint

Disco II doesn't have A frame, more likely to be either rear Anti roll bar bushes, Drop links or my money would be on the Watts Linkage Bushes or Bearing

No it doesn't do it on braking or acceleration, just on steering left or right or when I go down the farm drive which causes it to rock which causes the same knock to occur.

if you lay underneath and hold the various links and roll bar etc whilst someone rocks the side of the vehicle vigorously you will feel where the play is

Correcto. Bottom bush is worn on the linkage..

Advice please, is there a recommended after market kit or do I buy OE bushes and central bearing?

I bought the new OEM bushes from LR Series. I didn't replace the two outer bushes on the axle end links as they weren't worn. Depending on what gear you have available you may find it easier to remove the whole Watts linkage, get the old bushes out and then get the new ones pressed in by a local garage. It's on the last page of the thread I posted earlier
