i have a speedo from a dt5 defender fitted into my defender which is fitted with a 3.9 v8 from a disco. how can i get it to work. do i need a dt5 speed sensor. any help would be great. ps. the speedo is all wired up with a fly lead waiting for a signal from the transducer.

Good morning. Yeah your right it is a td5. It was late when I posted this thread. the engine and box came from a 1996 discovery.
 
The TD5 speedo is driven via the ECU not directly off the speed sensor.


On a TD5 Defender, the speedometer is driven by a speed transducer on the transfer 'box (in the same place as the drive gear for a cable driven speedometer).

On a TD5 (or V8) Discovery II, the speedometer is driven by a speed signal from the SLABS ECU, which gets its input from the ABS sensors at the wheels.
