Hello again guys. Right my 1999 2.5 Dse is leaking a lot of oil the front diff is covered in it. It's engine oil as its going down very fast ne Ideas where u start looking.
 
Top of the oil filter housing has been leaking on mine, hope when I do the oil and filter change and fit new "O" rings it will stop.
 
Yea as data said there prone to going , mind the plastic nut on the top there very brittle when old and if over Tightened , also check oil cooler pipes where they are crimped or where they go into the bottom of the filter housing
 
Oil return pipe from the turbo back into the engine sump is also a culprit.

Take the acoustic cover off the bottom of the engine and wipe all round with a rag to pinpoint where it is coming from.
 
+1 for oil cooler pipes.

Look / feel underneath them, as they can appear totally dry on top but be piddling oil out underneath. They tend to leak from the crimping between the metal and rubber sections.

General rule with oil leaks is - unless it's dripping onto something that's throwing it upwards, like a pulley, it only ever goes one way - down. Find the highest spot you can see oil leakage on, and that's the level it's leaking from. Find something nearby level with that...

+2 for oil cooler pipes both on mine leak oil cooler end onto the engine mounts then down on the diff and also drip off the bottom of the rad.

Nikthegreek put some photos on not too long ago with a temp repair to stop the leak dependin on how bad it is.

New pipes may mean new cooler to as the alu fixings corrode. Expensive job...
 
is the diff under the front crankshaft oil seal??? :confused: lying here in bed i cant be sure :D

No it's passenger side ish about inline with sump ish off set basically you sure oil is on top and that the diff seal hasn't splatterd it all over ...foget that last comment engine oil going down fast leave it running then and start looking unless its an oil burner eek

Thanks guys ill have a look. Oil burner it is not as there is a path of oil no matter where u go. So it's defo engine oil. It seems to be coming from oil filter end so when I get bk home ill look at it on Friday and post what it was

I'm struggling to find this link - can anyone assist please?
 
that's what's putting me off! I have the links ready to buy the new hoses (about £60 for the pair if I recall so not too bad) but I've read some horror stories about removing them from the cooler. A new cooler would bump up that cost somewhat :(

Dissimilar metals, heat, moisture and electrolysis i am afraid, can be done but sometimes just cannot.

Take the cooler out with the pipes attached, take the lot to a hydraulic shop and get new lengths of flexible hose crimped on, cost less than the new pipes. This assumes that the metal pipes are not too corroded.:)
