Hi all, is it possible to fit a twin pipe exhaust system to my dse (diesel) p38??:D i cant really afford to buy the expensive stainless one :( so i was hope'ing to buy the v8 twin outlet and fit it too mine, has any 1 done this or does any 1 no if it will fit??:confused: many thanks.:)

Model year 99 on had twin pipes as standard except on the DT I think. It's not just a matter of fitting the pipes though. You need the hangers and most importantly the heat shielding.

So it can be done then, do you no if its the same set up as the V8 exhaust, im only asking as theres a few new ones on ebay that are twin pipe but for the V8, i did find one that was for diesel but i thort it could of been a clever marketing plan to sell them, with the seller guessing that its the same, (you no what its like on fleabay) :D

Don't know the answer to that, I thought that the V8 was twin pipes all the way? You need a cross pipe to link the boxes to the single pipe from the engine. The boxes themselves might be the same though.

Ohhhhhhh so the diesel is 1 pipe from engine then the near back box splits off to the other side for the passenger side back box?? just tryna picture it in my head.:D

The V8 (later one anyway) is a 2 into 1 into 2 - 2 catalysts into 1 centre box into 2 back boxes. I seem to think the petrol and diesel are both the same. Weren't early petrols a single system all the way through the same as the diesel?

there the ones mate, the v8s where twin at the front into single down the passenger side and then into a t piece and back to twin. twin exhaust fitment was 96 onwards, on a n plate yours is a 95/ early 96.

:behindsofa: Arron's right.
The older model has one tailpipe, the twin came out towards the end of 1996. These cars are missing the extra hanger(s) which are basically bent hooks welded to the chassis to attach the l.h. silencer. I believe the rear mudflap design is different in order to clear the rear silencers.
The centre boxes are the same as the additional rear silencer branches off the pipe between the r.h. rear silencer and the centre box.

Thank you, and i heaard the same about early v8's but could of been classic model.

Yeh im goin to have to weild the hooks in situ i think, got me worrid bout the rear mudflaps now tho :D
I only want to do it really just to see if it helps with the power etc and to make it look a tad better from the rear... its got to help with power at least a bit as my way of thinking is the faster the exhaust gasses are pushed out the quicker it can burn more...;)

Just remember that the maximum flow through a pipe is limited by the smallest diameter in the system.

e.g., If you have a 1/2" pipe feeding into a 2" pipe, the displacement through the 2" pipe is only the same as the maximum that can be handled by the smaller pipe.

Ahhhhhhhhhh ****e...:( but where would the smallest part of the exhaust system be?? and surley 2 outlets will work better than 1, and land rover changed them on the later ones for a reason, and not changin the subject but are you all set for poppin over here??:D:D

Smallest bore I think would be the entry and exit from the centre silencer. Haven't a clue why they went for twin boxes. The Classic 3.9 litre only had single tailpipe and the cylinder displacement on that was 50% greater than the 2.5 TD.

Yes, all sorted for the trip over tomorrow night, get to Walsall around 3.00a.m. Thursday. I have the keyfob in my toolbox. Back home 28th April.

Ahhh, when you do the maths it just doesnt make sence... sod it il do it anyway if anything it will make it look newer, mines in real mint condition (not mint but would easily pass for a 51 plate) in silver wich you dont see many and with the black leather... looking forward to c'ing you mate... il be ringing your UK mobile when you have settled in lol:D:D:D:D:D

I think your car will have a cut out in the rear valence for the single exhaust, the twin system turns down and stops short so the cut out is not needed. Looks odd with the cut out one side and not the other with the twin system fitted. BMW (they are the ultimate image purveyors) fitted the twin system purely for image so the diesel looked the same as the V8 from the rear.
If you want to improve the gas flow, remove the cat if yours has one.

when we looked at getting a new box for my old mans as one side had rusted away kwik fit list both boxes (left and right) as will fit petrol and diesel, the hangers are all ready on the car just need the rubber hangers to go on to the mounts on the chassis
