Yes, it says with the HP24 front end fitted it is 15mm longer. Presumably this means the pump housing. However I was told that with the shorter diesel tailend fitted as well it works out the same length.

Yep the shorter tail housing accommodates the extra length, I'm sure it's not just the pump housing, it's the part that houses the front clutch but I suppose that may also be part of the pump housing. It matters not, with the bigger clutch the box is 15mm longer making it a 24, the 15mm shorter tail housing means that overall length is the same so mountings, props etc are all the same. I think the output shaft to the transfer box is also different to accommodate the shorter tail housing:)

If you know someone who can change the gear change points in the ECU that will be very interesting. As I understand it it is a Bosch ECU and it is encrypted.

clutch A front clutch does sit against pump housing and is strengthened ,clutches C1 and 2 arent really but oneway (free wheel) is ,strengthened epicyclics isnt important
 
i will be able to get his phone number tomorrow and i will ring him on monday but a friend of mine who fitted a 3litre diesel out of a 530d to his p38 has dealt with him getting the commonrail working in the p38 ,he told me that the person can get 180bhp out of the 2.5 diesel and that he can remap the gearbox ecu i will get the details and report back
