Hi all
I am new to this forum, and lad rovers in General.

I have a problem with my series 3,
the front brakes don't want to release from against the drums.

Myself and dad managed to get the drum off the right side by undoing the adjuster, put it all back on and it was free, but there is still resistance.

We havnt managed the left side yet because the damn screw wont come out.

It ran fine the day before, and in the morning it was stuck.

Anybody have any ideas on how to fix it?

cheers!
Andy

It has recently
but the problem came over night.
one day it was fine, the next solid.

I think the pistons might not be returning properly..?

As already said you've got to get the drum off first. If you mean that you can't get the locating screw drum out of the drum then just drill the head off. If you can then get the shaft out with a pair of moles or whatever - great, but it's only a locator to hold the drum whilst you fit the wheel.

If you've recently done any work on the brakes, then you've done something wrong like fitting the shoes the wrong way round.

Otherwise a badly worn pair of shoes, knackered drum or a broken spring can give this result.

Try releasing the bleed screw - if fluid comes out and the brakes release it's a master cylinder problem. First thing to do is check the pedal to cylinder clearance.

managed to drill the screws out this afternoon.
had to stop as it got dark, and my digits were freezing off.

it looks to me that the piston isnt going back in properly.
and when the brake pedal was pushed gently, they didnt move at all.

shall carry on tomorrow
